RAILWAY FINANCE.
RETURNS FOR THE YEAR. REVENUE NEARING £4,000,000. The railway • figures published in Inst evening's Gazette include tho returns up till March 31 and so complete the returns for the financial year. Taking tlio grand totals of revenue and expenditure for the past twelve months, and comparing them with the figures 'for the year 1911-12, the result (shillings and penco being omitted) is as follows:— REVENUE, i ■ £ 1312-13 3,971,001 1911-12 3,676,509 Increase 294,492 EXPENDITURE. ■1912-13 2,705,609 1911-12 2,465,895 Increase 239,714 In detail tho revenue and expenditure for the past year are as follow:— NORTH ISLAND. pendiKevenue, ture. NORTH V. SOUTH. It is always interesting to note tho variation in the figures as regards the operation of the railways in the two islands. The revenue and expenditure of the North and South Island railways in comparison with the figures for the preceding year is as follows:— REVENUE. 1911-13 1912-13 £ North 1,934,591 2,100,632 South 1,741,914 1,870,369 EXPENDITURE. North 1,266,110 1,428,860 South 1,199,765 1,276,749 These figures show that whilst the revenue in tlio North Island has increased by .£166,038, that in the South Island has increased by -2128,455; and whereas the expenditure in the North lias increased by ,£162,750, it has only increased in the South by X76,96j.
