BOYS' INSTITUTE.
With the advent of the cold weather, end tho long nights, tho library at the Bo.vs' Institute was overhauled and catalogued afresh, the result being that when, the season was declarod open en Wednesday evening a. large number took books away with them. The shelves aro well filled with a real boys' library, in which. Henty, Stables, and Ballantyne occupy, prominent placcs. Owing to adverse weather conditions, only three of the six institute teams tuok tho field last Saturday in tho Association football competitions, but tho results, two wins mid a draw, wore very creditable to the boys. Possibly there aro a number of men who could sign their names to a letter similar to that received by the director some days since:—"l will have a good deal of leisuro time this winter, and I would like to know if you can givo mo an opportunity of doing something for the institute. ... I hnvo no other object in writing than to help others who perhaps have not had the same advantages." It appears that a very successful session lies before tho education class, which numbers nearly n score. Tho boys wilt be ablo to sit for their proficiency certificates earlier than usual, and this is a great encouragement to them to settle down to solid work. The weather has mililated somewhat against the attendee at recent Sunday services, but it is hoped that the boys will rally to the 7 o'clock meeting on Sunday next, to hear Mi'. D. Smilh, Lti.M.. who has had a long and useful connection with institute work. As the age limit for members is ten to eighteen, a movement is on foot to establish an Old Boys' Association, so that bovs may maintain their connection with the institute alter their limit is reached. To this end a meeting of old boys will bo held in the director's office on Tuesday next, when all old boys are urged to lie present.
