COPPER MINES CLOSE DOWN. NO COKE LEFT. By Telegraph-Press Aeiociatlon-Gopyiljhi (Rec. May 9, 0.30 a.m.) Sydney, May 8. Tho Cobar copper mines have closed down owing to the failure of the coke supply, through tho Southern Collieries strike. Although tho coal-miners havo resumed work, it will be some time before thero is enough coke available for running the copper mines once more. SHIP-OWNERS' ULTIMATUM. TO DOCKERS' LITTLE SCHEME. (Rec. May 8, 10.5 p.m.) London, May 8. The ship-owners of Liverpool have notified tho dockers that if Saturday work does not proceed uninterruptedly in future they mil oancel the agreement with the Dockers' Union. [At ten minutes to twelyo on Saturday, April 2, a thousand Liverpool dockers ceased work as a protest against the new Saturday conditions. A settlement of tho difficulty was effected in a couplo of days. On the following Saturday, however, several thousand dockers at Liverpool and Birkenhead struck, demanding a full day's pay up to 1 o'clock. Their loaders stated that they intended to strike once a week until their grievance was remedied.] MINERS' BALLOTS. A STRIKE FAVOURED. London, May 7. A ballot of Yorkshire miners on the question of striking to compel non-union-ists to join the union resulted in 66,299 voting for, and 7784 against tho proposal.
VOTE FOR SPECIAL COURT. . Sydney, May 8. ' Thirty-seven miners' lodges in the Northern District, where the coal-mining dispute still remains unsettled, voted in favour of the acceptance of a special Court under the Arbitration Act to deal with the matters in which the men are in disagreement with tho owners. Six lodges recorded their votes against tho proposal.
