DELUGE AT WAINUI.
OVER TEN INCHES IN A DAI'. Under tho pressure of the flood waters caused by the extraordinarily heavy rainfall of the last week-end, the Wainui Ftrenin broke its banks, and the City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton) visited the reservoir yesterday to investigate. "I do not know what the rainfall wni at Wainui oil Thursday and Friday last," slid Mr. Morton, "for tho simple reason that tho rain gauge was brimming ovci 4 - absolutelv flooded—but it is estimated that anything l>etvreen ■■ ten «nd twelve inches must liavo fallen in the twenty-lour hours when it rained its hardest.
