I'isher, who arrives there to-day -from Australia, and tho Hon. Jas. Allen, who is in Canada. Tho Hon. W. Eraser expects to leave on Monday for Pacroa. Mr. J. Hislop '(Under-Secretary for Internal .Affairs) arrives in Wellington tonight from Auckland, wlicro ho has been superintending tho arrangements for tho transport of school children visiting tho battlc-cruiser New Zealand. Ho will procccd almost at once to Christchurch to carry out similar duties' there when Hie battle-cruiser visits tho port of Lyttelton. At the beginning of next year General Sir lan Hamilton, Inspector-General of the Oversea Forces, will leave tho Mediterranean and visit Now ■ Zealand and Australia. His mission will be 'to inspect the military forces of each- country, at tho invitation of tho Commonwealth and Dominion Governments. Sir lan Hamilton is also to inspect the Canadian military forces, at tho request of the Canadian Government. Mr. Kwei Chili, now Chinese Consul in New Zealand, has been succeeded at. tho Chinesn Legation in London by Mt. Yuan, a nephew of tho President of the Eepubiic, Yuan Shih Kai. Mr. Edward Newnutn, M.P. for Rangitikei, leaves for Sydney by tho Maunganui ou May 16, in order to inquire into tho system's of agricultural _ education existing in tho various Australian States. Ho will inspect the Hawkesbury Collc(jo farm in New South Wales, which farm is regarded by many authorities as a model of what is required in New Zealand. Mr. Newman also hopes to visit tho State farm at Ballarat, Victoria. On tlio return to New Zealand he will report on tlio subject to tho Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. Mr. Massey). Colonel Logan, O.C. Auckland Military District, was a passenger by the south Main Trunk express yesterday for Dannevirke-! Mr. Walter R. Blow has been appointed Deputy-Resident Officer at Rotorua in accordance with regulations made under tho Rotorua Town Act, 100". The Rev. James Tyraons (Roman Catholie), Mr. Edward Gardiner (Presbyterian), and the Revs. R. n. Farland, and A. T. Brainsby (Baptist) are gazetted officiating ministers under tlio Marriago Act. Mr. H. J. H. Blow (Under-Secretary for' Public Works), accompanied by his daughter, will leave for Sydney to-day b.v tho WilJochra. Mr. Blow will rcpreseut the New Zealand Miuos Department at tho annual Australasian. Mining Congress which is to bo held this year at Broken Hill. The sittings are to extend from May 26 to Juno L Tho congress will bo attended by of the Mines Departments in tho various Australasian States, and by mining engineers from all parts of Australasia. _ At each congress papers relating to practical phases of mining are discussed, and tho mining statistics of the various States are reviewed. Tlio congress is invariably held at some leading mining centre, and tho mines of the district arc thrown open, to tho inspection of the delegates, technical officials usually being appointed to conduct tlio visitors over the workings. Mr. Blow, in association _ with Dr. Bell, represented tho Dominion at tho congress held at Mt. Morgan three years ago. Last year's conference was hold at Newcastle, and in the preceding year tho delegates met at Waihi. Whilo in Australia Mr. Blow will visit Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, no expects to return to New Zealand not later than Juno 18. In Mr Blow's absence tho official in chargo of the 'Public Works Department will bo Mr. W. S. Short (Assistant Undcr-Seerc-tary). Mr. Andrew T. Maginnity t has been unpointed a member of tho Nelson Harbour Board, vice Mr. John Graham, resigned. Mr T.
