MOTIONS MUNICIPAL. Councillor Findlay gave notico at last night's, meeting of the Petono Borough' Council to move the following motions ut next meeting.— 1. That, during the winter months, all casual labour employed by tho couucil, receive not less than Is. M. per hour. .
2. That an opinion bo procured from Mr. Martin as to what extent a borough council can apply pi liliii funds in assistin >» a limited liability company in any scheme of general welfare. 3. That a deputation Wait upon tho Prime Minister as Minister for Lands ro the possibilities of n Hill being passed through Parliament next session, enabling boroughs to collect rates, past and future, upon estates acrjiiircd for workmen's homes, and not built upon. i. That the liailway Department bo _ asked to open up from the llutt Road at the entrance to ICoro Koro a footway enabling passengers to .'reach the station , without crossing unnecessary bridges. • 5. That we, as a body, instruct Ilia ■' Town Clerk to proceed with correspondence to onr member with a view- to ■ strengthening the bands of other local . bodies in enabling a Bill to bo in Parliament during next session, giving power to local bodies to trade in commodities such as coals. G. That a return be laid upon tho toblo for the use of the new council, showing (a) the amount of charitable aid given during the last twelve months to Petono residents; (b) tho number of patients sent to the Wellington Hospital from Pot one; (cl the number of those who have paid for their treatment; (dl that we, as a conneil, consider that the incidence of taxation now used in levying rates for hospital and charitable aid purposes, as at present in vogue,, is unfair to ratepayers, tending to high rents, and enabling singla meit to go untaxed, and that we, as a council, consider this duty should be a national affair.
7. LOWER ITCTT COURT. The monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt S.lt. Court was. conducted before Dr.. M'Arthur, S.M., yesterday. On the information of Inspector Seed . (S.P.C.A.) Albert Peters was charged with ' cruelly ill-treating a horse. It was alleged that defendant had used'the liorje ' .. in one of his coaches when tho animal was quite unfit for work.
