INQUEST ON SAD AFFAIR. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., held an inquest yesterday concerning the death of Adelaide Eliza .Tane Percy, who was found dead at tho Thorndou Private Hospital on Tuesday morning. Doctor Collins deposed that for some time Miss Percy bad been in a highly neurotic condition, and that she had entered ■the private hospital to get well enough to go away'for-a change. Once she hail mentioned to bim that she felt suicidal, but ho had not placed any importanco on the remark.

Nurse James gave evidence to the effect that on Tuesday morning she liad found Miss Percy hanging from the screen in her bedroom. Witness had applied artificial respiration without effect. The verdict was that deceased died Ircml strangulaticfn, self-inflicted by hanging, while in a state of temporary insanity. The coroner remarked that apparently the deeefised had received all necessary attention in the hospital.

POLICEMAN BREAKS ARM. Police-Constablo A. Dickson broke an arm yesterday through slipping when getting off a tramca'r in Manners Street.

TRAM ACCIDENT. Yesterday afternoon, a young girl named — Pickavd, who resides at Brooklyn, and was employed at Messrs. Kirkcaldid and Stains's, met with a serious accident. Sho was crossing tho tram lino on Lauibton Quay shortly before two o'clock, when she was struck by a car and thrown against a standard. A miner named Patrick Kcnneliy, a eingta man, aged 73,. was discovered in the Mataura liiver ou Sunday by, Constable Henderson, of Lumsden. Kennelly, who lived in a hut about two miles from Athol, had been missing since Friday, and it is thought that he was drowned .while attempting to ford the river. The body was removed to Carston where an inquest was. held, and a verdict returned to the cfl'ect that death was caused by shock, while trying' to cross the Mataura liiver. BOY'S DEATH: NEW VERSION. Auckland, May 7. A lad named Attrill, son of C. Attrill. a resident of Mcrcer, was out shooting with a young ( companian when, on rising froni a crouching position, he presumably touched the trigger of the gun, which 'discharged, with the result that hp was killed. This differs materially from the first account of tho occurrence, which stated that the lad had been accidentally shot by his father.

RAILWAY WORKER BADLY HURT. Gisborne, May 7. A serious accident happened to a cooperative worker named D. Croniu on the railway rorks, four miles beyond Matawai. Croniu was engaged driving a horse attached to a truck through a cutting on the- railway construction works, when ho! fell, and before ho could roll clear the 1 truck passed over him, severely injuring his head and shoulders. A number of ribs wero also broken. It was a miracle that lie was not killed outright. Cronin ha,s been brought to the town hospital.

FOUND DEAD IN COAL YARD. Pahnerston, May 7. A well-dressed roun, about 33 years of age, with auburn hair, and whose pockets contained documents bearing the name of'W. Timperly, and a railway ticket from Hawera to Hastings, was touml dead in the Westport Coal Company's yard, near Palmerston North station, this afternoon. The cause of death is thought to be heart failure. An inquest is to bo held to-morrow. CYCLIST AND SAVAGE DOG. (By Telegraph.—Sjiccial CorrespSndent.) Marton, Hay 7. A young man named Frank Stansbury met with a painful accident whilst cycling into Marton last evening. A do", it appeared, savagely attacked him and he succeeded in knocking it off. The furious tnnino again came at him and, in defending himself with his foot, he fell heavily on to his knee-cap, which was fractured.

Another lad was riding home on hi 3 bicycle after dark without a light, and bumping into a pedestrian, fell and sustained slight concussion.

A man named John O'Reilly was admitted to the hospital last .night suffering from a cut on the left hand and- another on the head, both of which had to be stitched. Tlio man was found in Thorndon Quay by the police, and nothing is known ns to. how he came by the injurfe.
