ATHLETIC SPORTS.

LACROSSE. THE WELLINGTON CONTROL. The Management Committee of the Wellington Lacrosse Association met last evening, Mr. A. H. Casey presiding over a full attendance of delegates. The secretary reported that tho Hon. H. D. Bell had accepted the offico of patron of tho association, and Mr. 15. C. Levvey that of president. A letter from the Town Clerk stated that tho association had been allotted two playing grounds on the western sido of the Basin Reserve. The chairman reported that lacrosse had been successfully inaugurated in three leading Girls'/Colleges in iWellington, and that, in all, 120 lady' players had already commenced practising the game, with good results. In pursuance of a direction from the annual meeting it was decided to donate a dozen crosses to each of four boys' primary schools in the city, subject to each headmaster agreeing to allow the inauguration of lacrosse at his school. Tho hon. secretary ■ was instructed to write to tho Auckland _ Lacrosse Association suggesting a date in August for the annual representative match to bo played in Wellington. The club captains were appointed a ground and match committee. Mr. A. H. Casey was elected chairman, and Messrs! J. L. Leydon and R. Renkin wore respectively appointed hon. secretary ana hon. treasurer of tho association. ' PROUD CUP MATCHES. It was decided to commence tho matches for the Proud Cup on Saturday, May IV, and to play four round for the championship. The following fixtures for the first round were drawn:— Saturday, May 10-Capitol v. Columbia; Wellington v. Kelburne. , Saturday, .May 17—Wellington v. Capitol j Kelburne v. Columbia. Saturday ,May 2i —Columbia v. Wellington; Kelburne v. Capitol. All matches will be / played at the Basin Reserve, commencing at 3 p.m.
