NORTHERN TERRITORY STRIKE. DEMANDS REFUSED.' By Telegraph—Press Association—Cojyrielit Darwin, May 6. Dr. Gilruth, Administrator oC the Northern Territory, has arrived hero in connection with the strike of members of tho Amalgamated 'Workers' Association employed by the Federal Government, and who demand a wage of £i for n forty-four hour week. The Striko Committer presented it-3 demands and Dr. Gilruth refused to accede to them, stating that he had no power to grant them. He offered (o submit the matter to arbitration. A meeting of tho men rejected tho offer and decided to adhere to tho demand for .£4 a week for forty-four hours. The clerical staff is assisting Iho crew of the steamer.' Linscloten to unload Government cargo. - BOILERMAKERS STILL OUT. (Rec. May G, 5.3(/ p.m.) Sydney, May G. The strike of the boilerraakers at the Cockatoo Island Dock still continues. [Four hundred men have gone out on strike and the whole of tho work of construction of the Australian warship; has been suspended.! THE COST OF IDLENESS. Sydney, May 6. It is estimated that tho Southern strike will cost the coal-miners in wages.
