THE SECOND EXPRESSES.
HALF MEASURES IP NEEDED. The Government' has now under consideration the question of again increasing the Main Trunk express service, l'ho Prime Minister (the Hon. W. F. Mnssey) stated to a representative of tho "Now Zealand Herald" a day or two ago that in accordance with the recommendations of the Minister for Bail ways, the second expresses would' bo reinstated early in the (spring. If, however, it is found that tho single express service is insufficient for the traffic between Auckland and Wellington in the meantime, a second express will ho run each way on (hrco days in tho week. "It would be very much plcnsanter for Ministers," remarked Mr. Masscy, "to allow the two trains to continue running; but our information from the Department is that wo wcro making a very serious loss —a loss more serious' than most people would imagine—though 1 am not ablo to quote tho figures from memory. You may be quite sure that nobody will be better pleased than myself when the business warrants us in 'running the sccond expresses regularly."
