MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) CIVIL LIST. OVERPAID SUM OF MONEY. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M., delivered judgment in the case of Petherick and Machell, solicitors, v. Frank Shaw, chemist, of Wellington. The statement of claim set forth that during the months of December, 1911, and January, February, and March, 1912, Petherick and Machell acted as solicitors and' agents for the plaintiff Trancis Loudon, and for the defendant, in the carrying out of the sale of certain city property. On completing tlie transaction lon or about February 9, 1912), Petherick and Machell overpaid to defendant, the sum of <£25 Os. Bd. '■ Plaintiffs therefore claimed that amount and interest (,£2 Bs.' id.). For the defence it was contended at tho hearing that the account was settled as between Shaw and Loudon, and no money was owing to Loudon, Petherick, or Machell. • Shaw hnd never instructed Petherick and Machell tp act in connection with the transaction. His Worship gave judgment for Petherick and Machell for i! 23 6s. Bd,, with costs" .£1 '2s. . THE LAUNDRY BILL. Orlando William! Oldham, proprietor of the Excelsior Laundry, sued Miss Malcolm, boardinghonse-keeper, The Terrace, Wellington, for .£G 6s. sd. as money duo for laundry work. ; Mr. T. 0. A. Hislop appeared .for the plaintiff and Mr. H. E. Anderson for the defendant. Judgment was for the plaintiff for .El 13s. 3d., with M 2s. costs. UNDEFENDED CASES. POLICE CASES. William Newman was sentenced _to three months' imprisonment for having stolen a gas governor and a cast-iron faucet, valuod at .£l9 10s. r belonging to tho Wellington Gas Company. John M'Couville and Leslie Trincler ivero each fined .El for having broken the peace on Lambton Quay. For insobriety Knnd Olsen was fined .£l.
JUVENILE COURT, SEVERAL YOUTHS IN TROUBLE. Three small boys wore before- the .Tucenile Court yesterday on charges of dishonesty. One boy of 15 years bad gone into a shop to "look at-some foreign jiostase stamps, and it is said that ho pocketed ft packet of them. Ho was ordered to o.ppear for sentence when called on. A'milk-boy, thirteen years old. was ordered six strokes of the birch for collectinc Us. ii. for his employer and not handing it over to him. A lad. of fifteen, whom the D.I.C. employed, was charged with stealing a pair of boots froni the cV >nn. Tie w to appear for sentence when called on.
