(from Oi-r Rjjeoial OorreioondeaU ♦ I'ETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL. A meeting of the managers of the Pctono Technical School was held last evening. The Jiev. A. Thomson occupied the chair. The director (Mr. .1. Lynskey) reported that the work of the school hud been progressing favourably during the month. It was announced that Mr. L. C, Mitchell, shorthand and typing instructor, who was a member of the Public Service stair, had received notice to discontinue services as teacher. ■- The director staled that it would be regrettable to Joss Mr. Mitchell, ns he had done excellent work. The matter was hold oveh. Mr. A. A. Hope was appointed treasurer of the board, vico Mr. 1). Duncan. " It was reported that, 1 in conjunction with the director, the wool class instructor (Mr. Cafe) had made arrangements for an examination to take place this evening. Masters Roy Robson and Leonard Pickering (senior pupils) have had their free places extended to a fourth year. PETONE POLICE COURT. At the Pet one Court yesterday morning, before Messrs. Southgatc and Jfotlies, J.P.'s, an old offender named Trevor Williams was sentenced tu, three months in gaol with hard labour for being illegally on premises in Jackson Street. SHORTAGE OF' COAL. At tho present time there is a shortage of coal in Petoiie. Shipments have arrived in Wellington, ■ but the shortage of railway trucks is hampering delivery. UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD. The fortnightly meeting of the Upper Ilutt Town Board was held on Monuay evening. Present: Commissioners Webb (chairman), Benge, Bennington, Edwards, Hemp, Robertson, and Quinn. Tlio first busines transacted (by way of special procedure) was that authorising tho new levy of 2d. in the' JE rating on Kiij unimproved value. Messrs. Brandon, llislop, and Brandon wrote relative to previous correspondence in respect of n roadi to Section 127, and asked the board to proclaim a strip of about two chains a public road, the same having bwa used lor such purpose for some years past. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to give commissioners nn opportunity' of visiting tho locality before deciding tho question at the ensuing meeting. . The South British Insurance Company wrote notifying that the insurance of employees had been effected by tho waterworks contractors.—Received. Correspondence was received from tho town clerk, Lower Hutt, proposing to hold a confcrence regarding the increases cn levy by the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Tlio chairman was deputed to attend on behalf of the board. It was decided to give immediate effect to the special report by the new'road foreman (Mr. Greenwood) regarding the state of the roads. A sum of .£BO being considered necessary to complete all repairs, it was further, decided to keep a tally of the cost from meeting to meeting. Commissioner Heiige's motion to havo tlie decision of the board, in tho matter of handrails at approach to the Wallaceville Station reviewed, was defeated, nn amendment being carried to tlio effect that the work be completed as originally set out.- The discussion relating to this matter ended in a resolution being moved by the chairman and carried by 0 votes to 1, asking the attendance at the next board meeting of ex-foreman Wilkie.. It was alleged that instructions had been given him by the town clerk, but had not been attended to. 'The mover was of opinion that tho town clerk had virtually defied the board in the matter of hastening the erection of tho structure at Wallacevillc.

Bodingficld; ten vice-presidents; secretary and treasurer, jlr. Clark; assistant secretary, Jlr. Robinson; Executivo Committee, Messrs. Kerr, Hooper, and Ogg. It was- dccided to hold tho first, meeting on Tuesday, May 13. '
