AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEETS. Mr. A. Marryatt prodded at a meeting of the council of tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening. "Tliero were also present Messrs. J. 11. Pollock, J. C. Cusack, W. Larkin, E. L. Chaffey, A. Davies, and B- Guise. A letter was received from tho secretary' of the Amateur Athletic Union of Ausi tralasia asking for the New Zealand Association's vote on the following resolution,. submitted by tho Viotmiait A.A.A.: "As there is no elfectivo organisation governing amateur athletics in Si nth Australia, that State aud any representatives from it be debarred from taking part in events with members United Associations, until'such time as the executive of the union is satisfied that an effective organisation has been established, and the , same is financial on the union." It was resolved,to vote "No" to the proposal, tho secretary to send a letter with the association's reasons for eo doiag. J. H. M'Holm wrote asking for a standard badge in recognition of his performance in throwing the hammer 126 ft. Sin. at the last Australasian championship meeting. The secretary was directed to inquire if standard badges were issued for Australasian standard perforn'.ancc-s. Mr. B. Guise mentioned (he matter of tho British Empire championships. If theso were lo bo held in Australasia, he suggested that the council might keep an eye open with a view to having them held in the Dominion. The matter was noted. Several applications for reinstatement were dealt with. On behalf of the Otago Centre, Mr. Cusack asked if anything had b;on done in regard to the next cross-ccuntvv championship. It appeared that no other applications had been received, and it was then decided that the champir.nship meeting be allotted to Otago on tho usual conditions.
