RANGITIKEI ROAD FUNDS.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, May 5. The maintenance of roads in Iho Eangitikei County lias proved a very heavy drain on tlio council's finances, as is evidenced by (ho fact that, though the financial year was commenced with a credit of over',£2ooo, it finished with a credit of only 2s. !)d. Persistent rainfall, the incrcuso of traffic, and (ho extra cost of wages and material are considered to bo some of the contributing causes. In order to protect itself for the coming year tin; council has increased the rates iu all ridings except one. thereby making provision for an addition .£'2ooo.
