CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

1 MONTHLY MEETING. Ml!. A. E. JIABIN RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT. Mr. A. E. Al'abin (president) occupied tho chair at the first monthly meeting of the newly-elected Council of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday ■afternoon. There were present: Alessrs. AV. J. Thompson, Jas. Macintosh, Thos. Ballinger, G. Wilson, E. ,T. Pilcber, C. W. Jones, AV. G. Duthie, F. W. Marton, J. G. Harkness, and W. B. Lees. Tho first business was tho election of the new president. Mr. Macintosh said that lie had much pleasure in proposing that Mr. A. E. Mabin be tho president for tho coming year. It had for a good many years past been the case that a president was elected for two years in succession. Mr. Mabin had performed the duties attaching to tho office very satisfactorily, and was eminently fitted to occupy the chair. Air. E. G. Pilcher seconded the motion, and hoped that Air. Atabin would do them Die honour of accepting nomination. There vfcre no other upminaiions. Mr. Mabin, whilst expressing himself as greatly obliged for tho kind remarks made as to the manner in which ho had filled the position said his desire was to retire. Still, he felt called unon to thank the members for nominating him for a second year's term, and in view of tho confidonco in him as expressed by those who had spoken, which ho thought expressed the opinion of tho Chamber, all he could do was to assent to their wishes. (Applause.) Oil tho proposal of Air. E. G. Pilcher seconded by Mr. G. AVilson, Air. C. W. Jones was rc-elccted vice-president. Tho president expressed his pleasure at Mr. Jones's re-election. Ho had at all times found Mr. Jones.a willing assistant, whoso advice was always valuable. Tho following committees were elected: Hemp Committee—Alessrs. G. Shirtcliffe (convener); G. F. Johnston, J. Macintosh, A. 11. Miles, Thos. Gray, and H. AV. Waterhouso. Dairy Produce Exporters' Committee— Alessrs. .T. ]!. AlacEwan (convener), AV. H. Ewafl, G. ShirtclilTo. ]). Bray, T. Gray, F. N. 1!. Meadows, .T. Atuir, 11. G. Hill, S._ Turner, W. S. Bennett, and IJ. AV. AVaterhouse. Trade Terms Committee—A. E. Donne (convener), AV. Allan, 1\ AV. Alanton, T. Ballinger, W. B. Lees, T. C. Dawson, and A. IT. Turnbull.

Legislation Committee—A. Leigh Hunt (convenor), J. G. AV. Aitken, A. do B. Brandon, W. J. Bendson, T. C. Dawson, M. Myers, D. J. Nathan, E. G. Pilcher, and A. S. Hiss.

The president extended a hearty wclcomo to new members of the council, among whom he was pleased to see two ex-presidents of the Chamber. They had a good strong council which should do good work during the year. The bank certificate showed a credit balance of ,CI3G lis. Gil. In reply to a question the president slated that the amount on deposit amounted to .£5lO.
