In respect to the robbery by two armed men of .£3OOO worth of gold slugs from the assay shed at tho Bullfinch Mine on Friday night, it is statod that tho monthly cleaa-up was being made at tho mine. Two of tho watchmen—Galo and Cassey —were engaged in smelting beforo tile robbers descended upon them. Cassey wont out to ask tho third watchman—Sheldon —to bring tea. When Cassey returned ho opened the door and tlio two armed and masked men appeared, and bailed up and gagged and bound tlie watchmen. Soon afterwards Sheldon camo with the tea, and he was similarly treated. The robbers promptly secured about 898 ounces of gold, valued at over .£3OOO. Cassey managed to free himself shortly after tho robbers left, and gavo the alarm. Tho polico found a number- of gags, and also bags which the robbers had worn over their heads. Galo states that Sheldon refused to hold up his hands, and showed fight, and that the robbers thereupon tripped him up and bound him, meanwhile keeping all tho watchmen covered by revolvers. Tim robbers smashed tlio elcctric globes to prevent their operations being seen. They drew the firays from tho retort furnaces, and throw water on tho gold to cool it. Before departing, the robbers fired a shot. Their movements showed that tliey were well acquainted with tho workings of the mine. Early developments are expected. Tho polico and black trackers ore busy. Hecent rain will mako tlio _ tracking comparatively easy.
