CHURCH MEETINGS,
ST. -JOHN'S. FEATIIERSTOX. Tho annual meeting of St. John's Church, Fontlierston, was held last week. The Vicar (the Rev. A. T. 1). I'ago) presided. The treasurer (Mr. J. G. Cox) read tho balnnce-sheel, which showed that thoyear's income totalled J1212 Us. sd. Subscriptions to general church fund reached ■<£93 15s. The collection in church totalled i! 92 lfe Td., including special offertories, JilS 125.; general offertories, .£74 2s. 7d. The total is a record by .62 14s. Gd. over tho previous record l of 1911. The year's expenditure amounted to X 192 ds. 5d., leaving a balance in hand of .i2O 10s., with outstanding liabilities estimated at JC24. The vicar, in moving the adoption of tho balance-sheet and report,, stated that during tho year about 205 communions had been made. He also thanked the lay reader, the outgoing wardens and vestry for their services during the year 1 , and the choirmaster, organist and choir. Referring to the Sunday School and its work, the chairman paid a tribute to the memory of Miss Phyllis Wishaw, late a teacher, who died on January 1. Miss Wishaw left a sum of money which Mrs. Wishaw.handed to the vicar for tho purchase of books for the Sunday School Library. The vicar also expressed his strong opinion that every effort should be made by the people of Featherston to have their own resident vicar or curate. Mr. Buck seconded the motion to adopt tho report and balance-sheet, which was carried. The vicar again nominated Mr. J. G. Cox as his warden. Upon tho nomination of Mr. G. Femviek, seconded by Mr. J. G. Cos, Mr. 1). H. S. Riddiford- was elected peoples'" warden. Messrs. Ivon Wilson and H. Boulden were elected vestrymen. Mr. A. Toogood was again elected auditor. The | chairman moved tho following resolution; I "111 accordance with the decisions of the General and Diocesan Synods, this annual meeting of tho parishioners of the parish | of St. John's, Fcatherston, in the Diocese of Wellington, pledges itself to support the | objective of the Bible-in-State-Schools League, and requests that a referendum of I the whole people of the Dominion bo taken Ito decide the question. This meeting further calls upon every parishioner to show | his or her individual adherence by (1) earnest prayer for God's blessing on the movement; (2) signing the card of membership; (3) active work in inducing others to sign tho card of membership; (4) contributing some donation, however small, to tho campaign fund." Mr. J. G. Cox seconded tho resolution, I aud it was carried unanimously.
