SATURDAY'S SENIOR GAMES. WELL-FOUGHT CONTESTS. Karori 3 United 2 College !i Wellington 4 Metropolitan ... 3 Govt. Insurance 1 It was indeed a surprise to hockey players, on arriving at karori on Saturday to find the grounds in such excellent condition. As was expected Karori defeated United, while after a ding-dong fight College vanquished Wellington by one point. Metropolitan, mainly through the agency of M'Gregor, defeated Government Life, who, although a little weak in the forward division, put 1 up a good battle. KARORI (3)— UNITED (2). Tho game between Karori and United attracted most attention. On the day's play, the better side won, the Karori iorivards being much more snappy, and more proficient in fielding the ball. For the first fifteen minutes play was up and down the field, combination was out of the question, and "solo" efforts were much in evidence. United, per medium of Boyd, worked their way down, and a penalty against a Karori back gave Collins a, chance which was accepted, and the Red and Whites were 1 up. They still pressed, and Karori conceded another corner, but nothing came from it. Then the Blacks, headed b.v M'Killop, went away, but M'Eldowney, with a long drive, drove them back. But they came at it again, and Murphy had n shot without result. Shortly afterwards though, Henderson equalised matters, the board reading one all. Boyd, Collins, and Miller then shifted the venue of play, but the Blacks were now hot on tho trail, and from a corner Brooker whipped in the ball, and at half-time the suburbanites were one up. On resuming the Karori forwards broke away, but M'Eldowney sent them back again, and the .Reds attacked to some success, for Ricliards sent in a warm shot, and the scores were even. The play was willing now, and from a melee' one of the Karori forwards sent in a successful shot. United died fighting hard, but they failed to wipe off the deficit, and Karori won by three goals to two. Mr. Cockrell was referee. VICTORIA COLLEGE (S)—WELLINGTON (i). At the start Victoria College attacked, but the defence was sound and sure. Wellington then took a hand, and reached the College circle, but back came the ball, and away down the field, down into tho.very circle, from which a corner resulted. It hovered about in the goal arena until Cleghorn, sent in a good shot, and the Greens were one to the good. But the advantage did not last long, for their opponents became aggressive. They forced tneir way down to the goalmouth, where from a corner Reid beat Morris with a clinking goal, and honours were oven. The game now waxed warm, but the Strack brothers carried the play down the field, and from a side-pass Cleghorn secured and sent in his second goal, and half-time wont with the Greens in the lead. On resuming, Wellington bccamo active; particularly Fauvel, who galloped down tho field all alone and shot a good goal. Not many minutes had. elapsed before Haas<k poked the ball ir., and Wellington were two in the lead. Things now looked rosy, but College became aggressive and stormed the Sitadelj Corner after corner followed, and two goals eanic from the sticks of Cleghorn and Griffiths. Four all, and College still attacking. Then Morpeth left his goal, and the Collegians swooped down again, and Cleghorn sent in a warm shot. From now* on the play was fast, but no score came, and the Collegians tfere left victors. Mr. Gendall was referee. METROPOLITAN (2)— GOVERNMENT LIFE (0). Metropolitan v. Government Lifo .gave a very interesting display of hockey, and although the former were successful tho Blue and Blacks made them fight for every goal. Government . Life were strengthened by the inclusion of Cleavo and Hunter, and before the season closes' they will prove a good combination. At the commencement, Metropolitan attacked, but were driven gradually back. Whenever the ball came to M'Gregor, however, he always set his men going, and times out of number he was attacker and defender all at once. After a few minutes' play Keys found the net for Metropolitan with a good shot. Then Government Life attacked, but their forward lino could not continue the good work of their backs, and their chances were gone. Williams put in some good runs, and was well backed up by Cameron, but Cody and M'Gregor proved sterling defender*. The Reds soon worked their way back dgain, and finished up by goaling. From now on tho play increased in vigour, but the scorc remained | unchanged. Mr. Cusack was referee.

Tho position the previous Saturday waa a draw between Collego aiul Ramblers, play then being abandoned on account of the failing light. Even'play marked the opening exchanges on resuming on Saturday. Jtiss Laurenson. showed that she knew her position at loft-wing for College, and often instituted good moves, and she kept Ramblers at home most of the first spell, which was closed with honours even, hfoon after tho start in tho second spell, Ramblers got in the College danger zone. However, "somebody blundered," and back came tho ball with Miss Lauronson in good position. The attempt failed.
