AN INFURIATED BULL.
EXCITEMENT AT OHAICUNE. The vagaries of a bull caused eomo excitement at Ohakuno a couplo of days ago. On tho arrival of a southern stock train, it was found that a bullock in ono of tho trucks had fallen down, and was iu danger of being seriously injured. Efforts ware made to get it on its feet by playing water from a hose into tho truck; "but, as this proved n failure, it was decided to take, tho animals out and thus mako room. An effort mado to perforin this operation at tho tntckiug yard ended iu great excitement'. A bull, which had evidently been maddened by tho jot, of water, was no sooner taken out of the truck than it. rushed into the sheep race, and took a living leap on to the railway line. It then charged along tho line, and ail engine-driver on his w.iv to work found it necessary to exercise great agility lo avoid being tossed into tho air. Tlio animal proceeded along tho line in the direction of Horopito, and crossed tho Manganui-a-te-ao viaduct. A gang of men in the tunnel wcro greatly startled by tho appearanco of the boast in ilio tunnel, and beat a liasly retreat. Later on sjme maintenance men on a "jigger" encountered tlio bull,, and not knowing that anything was amiss, took no notice. As the "jigger" approached, tho animal lowered its head and charged, tossing the machine in tho air, upsetting the occupants, and smashing tho "jigger." Permission was given to tho local butcher to kill tho animal, and tlio latest advice was to tho effect that lie was tracking it; down, armed with a rifle.
