POWERS IN CONCERT.

Russia oil Wednesday renewed her demand for the immediate; evacuation of Scutari in the bluntest terms, intimating that Montenegro was courting ruiu in continuing the occupation The communication created the greatest bitterness, and was interpreted as a veiled hint of Austrian intervention.
HOPES FOR PEACE. MONTENEGRO CONCILIATORY. (Reo. May 2, 11.30 p.m.) London, May 2. Although Count Mensdorlf, Austrian Ambassador in London, has conveyed to the Ambassadors' Conference Austria's expressed intention that she Holds herself at liberty to take independent action in respect to Scutari, it is hoped in many quarters that owing to Montenegro's more conciliatory disposition, Austria will stay her hand if only for a few days. ' M. Popovitch, the Montenegrin Plenipotentiary, made overtures for a friendly settlement. . REPLY TO THE POWERS. ACTION NOT DEFIANT. (Rec. May 2, i 1.30 p.m.) London, May 2. Montenegro's reply to the Powers' demand denies any intention to defy them. She trusts that the question of the disposition of Scutari will bo discussed between the Allies and the Powers as a part of th 6 whole question of tho delimitation of the Albanian frontier. PROPOSED SURRENDER OF SCUTARI TERMS DECLINED BY AUSTRIA. (Rec. May 2, 11.30 p.m.) London, May 2. Montenegro yesterday offered to surrender Scutari for territorial compensation, but Austria would not agree to any compensation at the expense of the Albanians. The Powers hope that a few days' patience will facilitate a peaceable ment. ' PEACE NEGOTIATIONS. BETWEEN TURKEY AND THE ALLIES. (Rec. May 2, 11.30 p.m.) London, May 2. Peace negotiations between Turkey and the Allies will open in London in a few days when the Powers will draft a preliminary agreement to be submitted for their signature.
Constantinople, May i. The Powers have invited tho Porte to appoint peace delegates, to indicate a meeting place, and to begin demobilisation.
