•IVIR. ALLEN ENTERTAINED. BY CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS. Br Telegraph—Press Association—Oonyrleht (Rec. May 2, 8.40 p.m.) Ottawa, May 2. The Nefr Zealand Minister for Defence, Mr. Janies Allen, was tho guest of the Parliamentary Association at luncheon. The Speaker Of the Dominion liouso of Commons, Dr. Sproiile* presided, and the Chief Justico, and many other representative men were present. Mr. Sproule welcomed Mr. Alien. Mr. Borden, the Prime Minister, in tho course of'his speech, referred to tho great progress New Zealand had made, in common with tho othor, portions Of the Empire. A great task lay before the island Dominion. ■ ■ Sir Wilfrid Laurier referred to the AllRed Steamship Eoheme, and hoped that the Borden. Government would carry it out. There should be direct ( lines of communication from Vancouver to Australia and New Zealand, and sticli were absolutely necessary. Mr. Allen, concurred with Sir Wilfred Laurier in the necessity for such • a steamship service.
