AUCKLAND OYSTER SEASON.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, May 2, Tho oyster season for tho beds round tho Auckland const opened yesterday. The supplies from tho Government beds were only small. For the first day only 20 bags arrived in Auckland, and these were eagerly taken by tho fish merchants, hotels, and restaurants, somo having had orders standing for many weeks past. Only the beds in Rangitoto Channel were touched yesterday. As fpr as can be judged all the beds are in firstclass order, and tho prospects for a successful season are assured. Tho oysters aro in excellent condition, and thoso picked yesterday were pronounced to be very good eating.
