MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, May 2. A cold southerly "snap" lias been experienced in this district during tlie last twenty-four hours. It will result in a serious diminution in tho milk supply to dairy factories, but otherwise tanning operations will not bo affected to any great extent. The championship matches in connection with tho Wairarapa Rugby Lnion commence to-inorrow. Unless the veatlior takes up, however, they will probably be übandoned. _ ... The North Island Championship Collio Dog Trials are to be held on Mr. \\Y alter Cameron's property, near Masterton, oil June i, 5, and 6. Silver cups, valued at ,£lO each, have been presented by Messrs. John Strang, H. N. JBectham, and Allan Cameron for the three championship events. . . _ , Mr. Carmody, of the Labour ment, has been inspecting the shearers quarters on the various stations in we Wairarapa during the last few days. He has been accompanied by Mr. J. ueorgeson, of the looal Labour office. A special prize is being given by Mr Walter Buchanan, M.P., for competition at the dog trials in Masterton next month. It is to be for the competitor in the local event whose dog puts' up tho nest performance controlled in the Gaelic langUflgG. Th 6 milk vendors of Masterton have increased their price to fourpcnce per quart. „ , It is understood that a conference between sheep-owners and members of the Shearers' Union will be held in Masterton at an early date. All hockey matches that were to have been played in Masterton yesterday were postponed in consequence of the inclement weather. It is expected that over fifty delegates will be present at the Wellington Provincial Conferenco of the Farmers' Union, which is to be hold in Masterton on May 27 and 28. The delegates are to be entertained at a banquet by tho local branch on the evening of May 27. It is expected that the Hon. W. F. Massey will be present. Mr. J. D. Wilson, of Pahiatua, has been elected to succeed Mr. A. H. Herbert, of Eketahuna, as representative of the conibined' boroughs of 'Eketahuna and Pahiatua o'h the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. •' Mr. Wilson defeated Mr. F. C. Turnor, of Eketahuna, by sev-enty-eight votes.
