ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
, SHOCKING AFFAIR. ■ '"A*.very • sombre .case (supposed to be one of .suicide) was reported after midday yesterday. Tho police information state thai; deceased, whoso name they tllink is Hugh Dyctt, resided as,a boarder at a house in Aurora Terrace. He arrived liome. shortly before lunch-time yesterday, rind retired to his room. Someone'in the front room heard' a shot, and, upon going to deceased's room, saw him lying upon the floor., The police were at .once called, and also Dr. Begg, the latter arriving at 12.20 p.m., and upon" examination pronounced life extinct. A constable arrived some fifteen minutes earlier, and found deceased lying with a revolver in his right hand, lie had ri bullet wound on the right side of the head, and a wound on the crown of the head. . Deceased was removed; to the morgue, and a further examination revealed a v.-or-ul under the chin, apparently by a razor. The police report finding a razor }ying.open in the room. A box of cartridges was also found. Deceased had been-employed Hi a city mercery shop for about thirteen months. He was 'about 35 years of- age, and was a sinsle. man. > , All inquest is to be held, but so far no time has-been- fixed.
" MYSTERIOUS FATALITY. (By Telejraph.—Precis Association.) Ashburton, May 1. • Herbert 1 Jolm Grainger, a farmer ' residing at Hinds, 30 years of age, and married, left-his home in a trap oh. Wednesday morning for Ashburton, and this morning his lifeless body was discovered on-the'Main Road ileal; Hinds Railway Station. The body was in a shallow pool of waiter, with the face, upwards. There were some scratches on • the knees, and one arm .was through tho reins of a horso which, with the harness on, was standing by. . • device;; that proved fatal. Hastings, May 1. Charles Flanders, aged 1!) years, met with ir fatal accident whilst duck shootiiig this morning. • Feilding, May 1. Mr; E. G'oodbehero (coroner) concluded tho inquest on the death of Mrs. h. >'■ Grice, who was killed by 'the Auckland express on April 23.
