SPIRITUAL HEALING
REMARKABLE STATEMENT BY BISIOP OF LONDON. A Tecent cablegram from London briefly recorded what. was described as a remarkable case of spiritual healing by tho Bishop of London. The "Guardian" reports that, speaking at St. I'aul'S, iCnightsbridge, tlw Bishop said: "Wh'-'n I got home on Thursday, at about 7 o'clock, after a long series of visits, I found this note on uiy table at London House:— " 'My Lord,—l hope you will forgive me for troubling you, but my little daughter of 15 is lying seriously ill with a nervous 'breakdown) and doctors and inedioine are powerless to help. Wo o-re told by St. James to send for tho elders of the Church, who will anoint tho sick with oil, and the prayer of faith will save the sick. My reason for writing to you, which may appear presumptuous, knowing how overwhelmed you are with work on all sides, is that I took my littlo girl to hear your mission service at _ Holy Trinity, Brompton, a short time before she was taken ill. She was much impressed, and begged mo to send in a petition for prayer, which, alas, I did not do, ond this caused her great disappointment,• and in her delirium now she has reproached me for not doing so, saying, "■you did not send the petition to the Bishop of London." I do not know who to turn to for hcln, feeling that it is a case in which only spiritual help can avail. I know this rite is not -usually given in the Church of England, but I lenow that if it has been asked for it hus been granted, and in my great need I have ventured to approach you.* "This," said tho Bishop, "is the answer. Within 20 minutes I was in the room. The poor little child had been raving and shrieking during tlifj, afternoon, and at first it seemed,, until I went up, almost unlikely that it was possible, without frightening her,, to pray lor her and cany out the directions of St. James. But this extraordinary thing happened. As I went into • tho room I said, 'Do you know me, dear?' 'Yes,' she said, ami slipped her hand into mine. She hod not slept for a long time. With the mother and tho nurses I knelt at the bed. We had two. prayers; then I anointed her on the forehead with oil, piaved for a blessing on it, placcd inj* hand upon her head, and gave her the blessing, and at tlmt moment she sank buck into a deep sleep, and slept lor hours during tho night, and, thank God, if it is His good pleasure, she is now >in the high way to recovery. I knew that evening that.Jesus was personally with us, aini I could not help thinking of the raising of Jairus's daughter. It seemed (i I most tho same thing over again. This little girl believed in prayer. Her petition' had not been sent ill, but it was offered by her bedside, and will bo again offered to-.'light." Tho Bishop tlici offered many petitions. the first being that the girl of v.hom ho had spoken might be fully restored to health and live a life of usefulness and service.
