There is every probability that tiio ratepayers of Carterton'will be given an opportunity shortly to express their opiniun on tho question of taking the necessary steps to have a new Town Hall and lnimioipal offices erected. Clark; treasurer, Mr. G. W. Deiler; auditor. Mr. J. Moncrielf. There are only two vacancies for vice-presidents, so that ui! election will be necessary. General committee, Messrs. W. H. Booth, \V. W. Bicknell, H. A. Bunnv, T. V. Caverill, A. Clark, (3. Campbell, J. W. Card, C. K. Cundy, A. C. l''east, J. C. Harp, T. Ingley, J. Monaghan, H. Morison, C. Morgan, J.' G. Donald, J. G. Oatcs, C. L. Reynolds W. H. Hobieson, A. G. Tyer, 1". White, G. E. Yule. As there aro only seventeen vacancies to bo filled, and twentyroiie nominations have been received, an election will be necessary. The annual meeting of tho Carterton Public Library was held on Tuesday evening when tho report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. The latter showed a credit of JC26 3s. lid. Under the new regulation the election of officers and committee (now called trustees) was proceeded with, and resulted as follows:— Patron, Sir Walter Buohanan, M.l. i president, Mr. A. N. Burns, M.A.; vicepresident, Mr. J. G. Moore; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. D. Hornisby; committee, Messrs. J. M. Lightfoot, B. Roberts, Rev. L. Thompson, Mrs. Standage, Miss Moore. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr W. Downard for his long services to tho institution. It was resolved to recommend tho incoming committee to increase tha librarian's salary if funds permit. OTAKI. The shooting season opened on Wednesday, but tho bags secured were, on the whole, not large. In a few instances, however,, good sport was obtained. Very little interest was displayed for th'.! election of two representatives on the Harbour Board, only 13 persons voting. Mr. Ayre was the local returning officer. _
