THE HARBOUR BOARD.
ONE NEW MEMBER: ME. R, A. WRIGHT.
Though he did not poll quite as many votes as last year, Mr. Fletcher again headed the poll for tho city seats on the | Harbour Board and was nearly three thousand votes ahead of the runner-up, Mr. R. A. Wright. The heavy vote recorded for' the latter was clearly unexpected in many quarters, as was the defeat of Mr. J. E. Fitzgerald, who did noC secure nearly as many votes as las., year, when the noil was not so heavy. Right up until the last few returns came in, it appeared as if A. Leigh Hunt was going to defeat Mr. Hindmarsh for the fourtn position on the board, but in the final count the Litter was forty-seven votes to the good. Two hours earlier Mr. Hindmarsh had left for homo under the impression that Mr. Hunt was certain to bo elected. The figures were as follow :— _ THE HARBOUR BOARD. Fletcher, R 12,217 Wright, R. G 2,150 SUBURBS REPRESENTATIVES At 11 o'clock last evening advice was received from Petone, where was located the returning officer for tie Suburbs and Counties of Hutt and Makara (Mr. Gardner), giving details up to date of tho poll in connection with the election for the two members of the Harbour Board to represent the districts named. These were as follow M'Ewan, J. W 1867 Watson, D. .1 1301 Scales, Geo. H. 913 Mothes, Richard 915 Bould, Robert 191 At the hour mentioned there were still a few small returns to come forward from Wainui-o-mata, Pahautanui, and other oinall back-country boo His, and also from two of the Minimal- booths, but the votes polled at those pi ices cannot afi'ect the return of Messrs. M'Ewen and Watson. PAYERS OF DUES. Tho election of . one representative on tho Wellington Harbour Board for payers of dues other than on ships took.place yesterday. There were two candidates, Messrs. "A. D. Kennedy and .T. G. Harkness (sitting member). .Mr. A. D. Kennedy was elected, the voting being as follows:— A. D. Kennedy 127 J. G. llarkness f>B 195 PAYERS OF DUES ON SHIPS. Three candidates went to the poll to contest tho election frr representatives of payers of dues on ships at the Harbour Board elections yesterday. They were Me-srs. C. W. .Tones (sitting member), 11. L. Nathan .md \V. Jl. G. Bennett. Mes.'i's. Jones and Bennett wero nominated by the ■Wellington, branch of tho Shipowners' Federation, and Mr. Nathan was an independent candidate. The result of tho election was that Messrs. Bennett and Nathan tied with 1G votes each. Tho returning officer is.given power under tho Act to draw lots for tho successful candidate. In yesterday's case the lot fell to Mr. Nathan, and lie was declared elected. Tho result of the poll was as follows:— C. W. Jones 20 H. L. Nathan (elected) 16 W. H. G. Bennett 16 52
