HAND CAUGHT IN MACHINE. (By Telegraph.—Prow Association.) Whangarei, April 30. 'A'. H. Clarke, while working at a planing machine at Foster's timber yard this morning, got his left hand caught in the cog wheels of the machine. One finger had to be amputated and he may lose the others. FATAL ACCIDENT. ■ nvercargill, April 29. ' A man known as Sandy was killed instantaneously at Hodgehope by a fall of gravel, which pinned his head against a cart, fracturing his skull and breaking his neck, SUICIDE SUPPOSED. Dunedin, April .29. , A man named R. Irving Johnston, apparently between 35 and 10 years of age, is; supposed to have committed suicide in' the Gladstone Hotel this afternoon. The body was found on the bed with a deep wound in the throat and a razor lying alongside. Deceased arrived at tho hotel on luesday, and said that lie might stay •for., a, few weeks. He is said to have been somewhat eccentric in his actions and sayings. He did' not have his meals in the hotel, and drank very little. Articles in. his possession, indicate that, at one time, ha followed the occupation of a commercial traveller.

FOUND DEAD I.N DINGHY AT SEA. _l nvercargill, April 29. Mr. John Stirling, of Stewart Island, to-day conveyed to Half Moon Bay by boat tho body of John Marshall, which he had found in the latter's dinghy about eight miles from Half Moon-Bay. The dinghy was full of water, and the oars and rowlocks wero gono. It is supposed that, during a squall on Monday night, deceased was fishing, and the dinghy capsized, Marshall afterwards righting her, but; the exertion was too much for him, and death ensued. Deceased, who was 6t years of age, had lived alone in a hut at Horse Shoe Bay.
