Fraser is at Reefton. Tlio Hon. A. L. Herdmnn, (ho Hon. It. H. Rhodes, and tho Hon. Dr. Pomarc aro in "Wellington. The Inspector-General of Hospitals (Dr. Valintine) returned to Wellington from the south yesterday morning. Tho Rev. Dr. Gibb .returned from tho south yesterday morning. Bishop Averill, Anglican Bishop of Waiapu, and Mrs.'Averill were passengers for tho south by the Maruroa last evening. Sir "William Hall-Jones, lately High Commissioner for New Zealand, has arrived in Melbourne by tlio 1\ and 0. liner Mooitan, en route from London to New Zealand. Sir James Carroll is recovering from his recent dangerous illness. Mr. "W. li. Clifford is a passenger from tho south by the Maori, due this morning. _Mr. C. W. Jones, general manager for New Zealand of the Huddart-Parker Company, returned from a visit to Melbourne and Sydney by tho Wimmera, .which inrrived: at Auckland 011 Monday. Lord Whitburgh (formerly Sir Thomas Borthwick) is visiting the South Island. Lady Whitburgh is now tlio guest, of her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. Banks, of "GwyunClands," Cambridge. She is accompanied by her daughter, tho Hon. Sybil Borthwick. The party purpose returning to England early nest month. Dr. T. H. Pettit, of Nelson, will leave for London as yiedical officer of tho s.s. Opawa, which sails from Wellington about May C. Mr. H. D. Rroadhoad (formerly nf Canterbury College, Christehurch), who tivo j;ears ago won an open exhibition at Trinity College, Cambridge, has gained, as the result of a recent examination, u senior scholarship in classics. Mr. Broadhead purposes continuing his studies at Trinity for ;i third year. ' At the meeting of electors in the Sydney Street Schoolroom last evening Mr. Wilford, who presided, alluded to the retirement from the City Council of Messrs. J. Smith, and G. Shirtclitfe. Tho city of Wellington, Mr. Wilford declared, was losing two councillors whom it would be most difficult to replace, and ho hoped the services they had rendered would not 1m forgotten. These remarks were heartily endorsed by the meeting. Mr. Harold Ashton, the well-known J. C. Williamson manager,will leavo Sydney for America 011 a business and pleasure trip on Monday next. Tho resignations of the following teachers in tlio service of tho Wellington Education Board were accepted at tho board's meeting yesterday:—Miss F- Slormont, Pahiatua; M.'.s I. M. Hansen, Weraitai; Mr. li. Bi'iulsiock, Rongokokako; Mr. J. J.iuray, woodwork instructor. Mr. D. T. Cameron, of Glowlhu Station, Martinborongh, -who is lying seriously ill at Iho Thorwlon privato hospital, was reported to be slightly better last night.
