ISLAND BAY, llr.Henry Ivory, the retiring 1 chairman cf the committee, presided over the annual meeting of householders of the Island Bay school district, being 'in attendance of 50 odd. The annual report and balance-sheet, which were adapted, Showed a credit balance of £M lis. An •mount of .£2-1 2s. had ben raised, by a jpecial effort, for a girls' tennis court, and at the meeting last ni»ht a further sum of, £'2 2s. 2d. was collected. With regard to the latter, three concerts which had been held realised .£23 ss. 6d., and it was hoped that further efforts would result in the raising of a sum sufficient to enablo tho work to ho completed beforo tho next annual meeting. Regret was expressed that tho Education Board had been unable to 6eo its way to inaugurate the proposed cookery; and woodwork classes until the train service was more suitable. Tho proposal to establish a district high school at Johnsonville had been dropped owing to the apathy of the parents. The average attendance for the year, was 236. The incoming committee was recommended to give' the matter of the school library and various other, matters their «arnest attention during the coming year. KHANDALLAH. , .
