P.—Bom in Wellington; city councillor for eighteen years; chairman of Streets Widening Committee when Ad-ejaide Road was widened; member at various times of each conimitteo of the council; member llouso of Representatives for six years; chairman of Wellington Woollen Company, Ltd , Opera House Company, Ltd., liouithon (New Plymouth) Oil Company, Ltd., and connected with many "other comincrcial and manufacturing concerns. BUDDLK, 11.—Bom. at Tnuranga, in 1879; educated at Newtown Public School and Wellington College; qualified as a solicitor when 21 ycars_of age; practising profession in this city during past twelve years as member: of firm of Biillor, Anderson, ami Huddle; associated with various athletic institutions, being a prominent member of the Old liovs' Football trnl Cricket Clubs. FROST, GEORGE.—Many years' experience in municipal life; three years . councillor and three years Mayer of the Melrose Borough; member Wellington City Council for past eight years; member Hospital Board for several years, and sitting member of the Wellington Technical School Hoard. GODBER, JAMES.—Member of tho former Hospital Board for five years, and for three years its chairman; member of present Hospital Board for three years, and at present chairman of the Hospital Committee'; elected to City Council first in 190], and now sitting as a councillor. IIISLOP, T. C. A. —I'r.rn in Wellington, 18S8; second son of the Hon. T. W. Hislqp, who was Mayor of Wellington from "1905 to 191'!! inclusive; educated at Wellington College and at Cambridge University; studied law in London, and after gaining sixteenth placo in the final examinations, called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in January, 1911, when he returned to New Zealand; now practising his profession in the office of Messrs. Brandon, Hislop, and Brandon. LUCKIE, MARTIN.—Son of the late Mr. D. M. Luckie, for many years Commissioner of Government Life Insurance; born in Nelson, and educated at Tliorndon Public School and Wellington College; admitted as a barrister in 1894, practising as member of firm of field and Luckie. M'KENZIE, LION.—San of the late Thomas M'Kenzie, who was one of the best known pioneers of the city; born and educated in Wellington; served as member of School Committee, president, of the Chemists' Federal ion, member of ilie Hospital- and Charitable Ai l Board, and city councillor for the last two years. NEAVE, THOMAS.—Barrister -and solicitor, member of legal firm of Brown, Ncavc, and Courtney; educated Southland Boys' High School and Otngo University; Crown Prosecutor at Wellington from 1910 until joining present firm; member of Urn council of the Wellington District Law Society, and ono of the Examiners in Law of I he New Zealand University. THOMPSON, W. J.—Head of live firm of Thompson Bros., Ltd., general merchants and fruit -auctioneers'; member council of the Chamber of Commerce and the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association; member City Council in 1910 and 1911, sn-ving on -the By-laws and Building Committee, on tlie Markets Conimitteo, and- on the Abattoirs and Fire Brigade Conimit- • fees; member To Aro School Conimitteo for about seventeen, years and chairman for fivo years. TREVOR. JAMES.—Arrived in Wellington thirty-four years ago, and engaged in business as a builder, erecting many of the largest buildings in I lie city; member of the City Council for the past eight years; chairman llydaws and Fire Brigade Committees; member Hospital Board since 1909, and for past year its chairman; member Harbour licia.rd for last two years. WRIGIIT, 1!. THE INDEPENDENTS. CASTLE, .10IIN.—Has toeen in business is a chemist for some years. At last general municipal election lie first, sought election to tire, council, and was supported toy '1131 voters He lias toeen chairman of the Nowtown School Committee, and in municipal matters has toeen activo in support of the Zoo, and also a consistent advocate of beautifying the city reserves. COIIKN, Has resided in AA'ellinglon since ISU3, and has been a member of the council siuco 1901. Ho has also .solved on the Hospital Board for five years, and 1m has liekl ether public positions. Ho was a member of tlie old volunteer fire brigade, and has been one of the foremost members of the City J'iro Police. FLETCHER, R.—Born at St. Andrew's, Scotland, in 18GU; educated at Madras College in that town. After working in the (service of the Midland Railway Company for a time, ho went to stu in the Dundee line of tailing ships. In 18SI1 he came to New Zealand, and entered tlie, employment of the AVellington Harbour Board. In 1898 . lie started in business as a shipping and forwarding agent, and ho is still carrying on that business Ho was elected to the council in 1907, and to tho Harbour Board in 1900. lie has been chairman of the board siuco 1910. PULLER, ,T.—Has been a resident .of New Zealand fcr 20 years, and was edu-cated-at Auckloml. Uo is a member of the theatrical linn of John l'uller ami Sons, and he manages tho (inn's AVellhigton business, lie has been two ye.irs a member of tlie council. FITZGERALD, .T. E.—Bom in Wellington ill 1881; educated at the State School, the Marist Brothers' School, and Victoria College. At tho college he was a prominent member of the Students' Debating Society, and ho won several championships as a debater. He was a member of tlio Onslow Borough Council when quite a youth, for two years, and he lias represented (ho citizens on tho City Council for the last four years, tie has the miiqiie distinction at present of holding more publicly elective positions than any other man in AVellington—a member 'of the City Council, tho Harbour Board, the Hospital Board, and the Technical School Board. MORI ARTY, I).—Born in Canterbury; educated at the Ashburton High ■School. Has been in AVellington for six years, and' secretary of tho Furniture AYorkers' Union for five years. He is also secretary of the Federated Furniture Trades' Association. Befdro coming to AYellington ho was associated with several sports bodies. FERRY, AW—Born on the West Coast, South Island; educated at AYellington College and A'ictoria College. He w'as president of the Students' Association at tho college. He has been in practice as a barrister and / solicitor for five years, as a member of (ho firm of Fitzgibbon and Perry. Now ho is a. member of tho AYellington Rugby Union, of which body he has been treasurer for fivo years, POLLOCK, J. H.—Born in Dunedin, came to AYellington 36 years ago. Shortly after his arrival hero ho established himself in business under tho style of Pollock and Young, butchers, in tho premises now occupied by Barber Bros., on Lambton Quay. Subsequently, in 1878, ho went to AYanganui, where ho served as a member of the Borough Council. In 18S3 ho returned to AYollington, and was in business again for a number of years, until lie took up handicapping for (he AYellington Racing Club and other clubs. TANNER, C. AY.—Born in AVellington; educated at Christ's College, Cliristchurch. He was educated as a barrister.and solicitor in 1880, and later he commenced practice in AYellington. Ho was once a member of tho City Council, representing Thorndou AA'ard. WILLIAMS, I?, IL—Born in tlie- United Slates of America; educated at Yale University. He was admitted as'n barrister in 1892 in Now Zealand, and he has practised here ever since. Ho was Mayor of Onslow for five years, and a member of various smaller local bodies, l'our years ago lie unsuccessfully. contested the, Suburbs seat in.'a'ratlier sensational ton days' campaign, tout since then, about- four years ago, ho has taken no part in politics. . THE LABOUR FIFTEEN. BEDFOKD, W. S—Horn in Yorkshire; arrived in New Zealand 20 years ago, nud ill Wellington five years ago. Previously he resided in Invercargill and in Du'ncdiu. Ho was a member of the Town Council of Caversham for sonio years, and also a member of the Dunedin City Council, in which bodies he was a strong advocate of the Greater Dunedin scheme. In Wellington lie has been a member of the Maranui School Committee, and like most of the Labour members ho has been a prominent member of tho United Labour Party. CAREY, E. J.—Born in Gyinpie. Qucens- ) land, in 187G; has followed tho occupations of printer, sailor, and miner, until he came to New Zealand, and to Wellington eight years ago. Was in the Labour movement in Queensland and Western Australia ana England (whero he resided for ten years). He is .secretary now of tho Hotel and Kestaurant Employees' Union, the Grocers' Assistants' Union, and the •Match factory Employees' Union; he is an ex-president of the Trades and Labour Council; stood as Labour candidate for Wellington North at last election, and this is' the fourth occasion on which ho has stood for the council. CHAPMAN, C. H.—A Londoner; camo to New Zealand in 1905; meinbar of tho British Labour Party since 1893, secretary of tho London Federation of 1.L.P., and since coming to New Zealand lias been elected lifo member of British 1.L.P.; was the selected Labour candidate for Wellington South in 1908, and he had to resign his position in tho Government Printing Office because ho took part in tho election fight. Ifo contested Wellington Citv Council election in 1909. DALKYMFLE, J. G. W—Born in Glas- , gow; arrived in New Zealand in ISG3, since when, he has been in Wellington for 13 years, lie is a. public accountant in Wellington, a Fellow of. the Federal Institute of Accountants, and a Fellow of the New Zealand Association of Accountants, lie l.as acted as organiser for the liquor trade in. the local option battle. DOBSON, W.—Born in Galashiels, Scotland, in 18C3. Ho emigrated to Queensland in 18C3, and in the town of Warwick was for many years actively <isfcociatttl with tho life of the place, ono ol' his offices being superintendent of the flro brigade. Ho has been nine years in Wellington, mostly working at his trad« us a plumber, and ho is now.secretary of the Plumbers' Union. GOIiDON; S.—Born in liussio, near Menil, on the shores of tho Baltic. Ho camo • to New Zealand 13 years ago, but previously he had lived in England for S'> .veal's. He was one of the original members of the British 1.L.P., and in Wellington lie has beeu treasurer of tho Labour party for tho lost eight years. HAMPTON, W. ll.—Born in Ashburton. Has been a resident of Wellington for 18 years. 110 has been chairman of the Mitchelltown School Committee, , president of tho Trades Council for two terms, and chairman of tho United Labour party. By occupation he is o journeyman carpenter. IIINDMAIWII, A. 11.-Dotll in South Australia. Came to-New Zealand when he was 18 years of age, and he has been a resident of Wellington for Hi years, lie has been a member of tho City Council for eight years; he is now a member of tho Harbour Board, and of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and a member of the llonso of Kopresentativcs for Wellington South. HORN lil.OW, A. ll— Born in Greytown, a son of Mr. C. W. Hornblow, one of tho pioneers of Wellington province. For a long time ho has been interested in Labour matters, but lie; does not consider himself an extremist. A printer by occupation, lie graduated in a newspaper office, and claims to havo learned something of public ofl'airs from his experience. Twice previously ho has stood for the council, and ho has been a member of the Newtown District High School Committee for the last seven years. KENNEDY, B.—Born near West-port in 1879. Began lifo as a miner, has been in Wellington for 10 years, during which time lie has always been n prominent unionist. He is president of-the Trades Council, secretary of tho Building Trades Labourers' Union, and secretary of the I'ekuie Woollen Mills' Employees' Union.
MACKENZIE, 1 ; . AV.-Son of tho lato Captain P. W. Mackenzie, of Otago, who ouco was a member of the Otago Provincial Council, and, later, of tlio Jlouso of Representatives. He studied lor his profession of medicine at tho -University of Duuedin, and afterwards at Edinburgh, London, . and Brussals. Since 1887 Dr. Mackenzie lias been in practice in "Wellington. NOOT, W. C.T-Born in Swansea, South Wales; lias been in New Zealand and in Wellington since lSfl-1. Ho is president of the Painters' Union, and president of Hie Trades Council, and ■he has been rcsponsblo for the organising work of several unions. Ho was on the Unemployed Executive during the- depression of 1909. Twice previously, in 1905 and 1909, ho was the selected Labour candidate for the council. BEARDON, M. .T.-Born in, Waikouaiti, Otago, in 187 G. For 18 yea's he has been in the North Island, 10 years in tho Ekclaluina, Pahiatua, and Taihape districts, and eight years' in Wellington. He contested tho Rangitikel seat in 19(12, and the Hutt seat in 1911, and he has stood for the council on many occasions. Ho is secretary of the General Labourers' Union, of the now defunct Wellington Slaughtermen's Union, and ho is an ex-pro-sident of the Trades and Labour Council. T'REGEAR, EDWARD .-Bom in Southampton, England, in 1840; arrived in New Zealand in 1863, in time to sec* activo service in the Maori War; lias held many positions in the Public Service, tho last toeing that of Secretary for Labour, 'from which office he retired a few years ago; has been chairman of two Royal Commissions, and ho has been honoured toy several English and Continental scientific societies. lie has published several Iwoks on Polynesian lore. He entered the council at the toy-election a year ago. YOUNG, AY. T.—Born at ICavori; followed a seafaring life for many years, tout lias never lived nshoro cxcept in Wellington. He lias toeen secretary of tile Seamen's Union since 1898 and has contested two general elections, two municipal elections, and olio Harbour Board election.
