DEBTOR'S STORY L\ COURT. (liy Telegraph.—Prcuis Association.) : Hamilton, April 28. A debtor in a ('judgment summons case at tlie Hamilton S.M. Court, in giving reasons why he was unable to pay the amount claimed, mentioned the fact that, one' of his children, not yet ten, assisted to milk 80 cows which, ho and his family had to get through daily. His Worship: This is one of tho instances of child slavery which wo read about.
Tlio debtor: Yes, ho gets up almost every morning at 4 o'clock. To-day ho was out as early as 3.30. His Worship: What is this duo to? High price of land, or wliatP Debtor: Yes, it is partly due to that, no doubt,, but it just shows how hard they are pushing things when a man has to push his children in this maimer in order to live and keep them. There is 110 money to be made out of milking on shares nowadays.
