NOTES AND COMMENTS.
[Br Gkncoe.]
The Marlborough Rncing Club's Autumn meeting wilt bo held on Wednesday and Thursday' next. Those who intond being present are reminded that the last boat for Picton is tho Mapourika, which leaves at 3 p.m. to-morrow. Entries for the Oamaru meeting: close on Thursday next. J. H. Prossor, with a team of five horses, leaves lor Blenheim by the l'ateona to-day. The Arahura was a full boat when slio left for the West Coast, via Picton, on Saturday. On board were V. Collelo with Ariom and Lord Possible. P. Moraghan with Kilts, P. Iliggott with- Merry Frank and Peroneal, F. Speakmau with Haydn Park, L. Pilzmaurice with Merry Guy, J. M'Crackeu with Teviotdale, and G. Mussen with Gleui'ern. Jockeys Conauest. Dceloy. Bell. Eiuerson, Wilson, Oli-
vcr, Griffon, ami O'Shca also maiie the trip. Weights for the first (lay's events at the Egmont meeting are due on Friday. At Opaki last week Master Lupin ran ill the nomination of J. Coyle, who has leased liini from (lis owner. Sir. T. H. Lowry's eolt Soltano, by Soult from Monoquil, heads tho winning Iwo-year-olds for tile season. He won five races, was second once, and third once. His winnings totalled .S2I9U. An interesting duel for premiership honours is now being fought out between Jockeys A. Oliver, B. Deeley, and (J. Emerson. At the conclusion of las-t week's racing the trio were all level with 45 wills apiece. With Emerson off (o Sydney after the Otaki meeting, his chance can be disposed of, but (diver and Deeley will see tne season out, and a lot of speculation is being indulged ill by the friends of both riders. Though he lias been high up on the list several times, Oliver has so far not headed it, but Deeley has hail that honour three times. Both horsemen are riding exceptionally well at tho present time, and are having plenty of luck. Oliver rode five winners at Opaki, and Deeley put up a like performance at Timaru. The Little Itivor sportsman, Mr. J. F. Buchanan, is having a very lucky run at the present time, and his three horses, Tannhauser, Thra.t, and Bulletin have won a number of good handicaps for him. At Timaru last week Thrax won the big handicap each day, and Bulletin scored in the Welter, 'l'lio stable started three horses for threo wins. If tho weather remains fine tho JlarlbDrough meeting this week looks like being a record one. From a racing point of view tho outlook is excellent, anil more horses will be present at Kivcrlands than on any previous meeting in the history of tho club. Horses are engaged from Hawera, Hastings, Aw;apuni, Otaki, Levin, Mastorton, Carterton, and Trentham, in the North Island, and from Riccarton, Groymouth, and Nelson. These, in addition to the Riverlands contingent, should ensure big fields throughout the two days. Leapuki, The Great Mogul, and Black Lupin, winners at Opaki laSt week, have earned 71b. penalties at Blenheim on V,'ednesday. The Otaki Racing Club would get considerably more entries for the weight-for-age Maiden and Scurry on its programme if these events were made for two-year-olds. Most other clubs have juveniles running in similar events. It is getting late in the season now, and owners of maiden two-year-olds would be glad.of an opportunity to pick tip a stako before 6ending their horses into retirement for the winter.
Acceptances for tho first day's events at the Ashburton County Racing Club's meeting close on Wednesday.
Tho Two Thousand! Guineas will be run on Wednesday.
