COUNTRY CHILDREN AND THE WARSHIP. ■ . | A quick trip was recently carried out by iha teaoher and the. elder, pupils of the Waterfalls School in connection with the! irecent visit of tho'warship to Wellington. When the circulars in connection, .with a visit to H.M.S- New Zealand were issued, it was thought to be impossible for the children in the back-h|ock'9 ito take advantage of tho excursions, but owing, to the generosity of Mr Holmes, of Tiraumea, Mr and Mrs. Herbert, of Eketahuna, and Mr, Chas. Cross, of Alfredton, the .. Journey was accomplished. The teacher and children were motored;: . to Eketahuna on tho Suude.y afternoon by Idr. C. C. Holmes, and were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert, who spared no pains to make their visit a pleasant one. On Monday morning ;Mr. Herbert motored tho party to the railway station, .where the teachor, o'hildreii, and ono committee man loft by train at 7.10 a.m. for "Wellington. After having a picnic iu the train, tho party wont on board the Government steamer, and thenco on to the warship, where they bought a medal, as a souvenir of tho occasion, and then left, for the shore. After making a fewpurchases, the par.ty left Wellington about 5.30 p.m., and arrived in Eketahuna about 1.30 a,m. Tuesday, where they were met by Mr. Herbert, and motored to his house. Here they had refreshments, and retired to bed. At about 8.30 a.m. a coach (sent by Mr. Chas. Cross) took- the party to Alfredton, and Mr. C. C. Holmes again met them, and conveyed them to Tiraumea, arriving, 'there about 11.30 a.m. The trip (writes our correspondent) is one that will be stamped oil tho children's memory, and the kindness -of, all who helped to convey the children ,will never be forgotten.
