One of tlicl severest earthquakes that have occurred in Invercargill was experienced at 10.11) on Saturday morning. Tlio motion was ilrom north to south, and the shock lasted about ten seconds. Those in tho upper stories of buildings were alarmed by tlio vibration of the buildings, and the timid rushed out into the streets afraid that $omethh)g serious would happen. Tho ciiockery on shelves was rattled and windowfj creaked, but no darnago was done. . ; At Matamta tho shock was preceded by a rumbling noise, and. in somo houses-in Invercargill: was followed by !i stronff odour of stiliphur. No damago .is reported, , , Gore, April 20. A severs shock of earthquake was felt here at ten liinutes past 10 this morning, lasting cighlt soconds. The direction was north-west (to south-east.
