BEFORE THE PLUNGE.
HARBOUR BOARD'S LAST MEETING
After all tho ordinary business of tho Harbour Board had been dealt with at the meeting last night, Tho chairman, Mr. R. Fletcher, reminded members that the meeting would be the last of the board as then constituted, and before they all finally dispersed ha wished to thank them all for their hearty support and co-opcration tn carrying out tho board's work, which had been very valuable cud very important work for the city and tho harbour. He congratulated Messrs. Daniell and MncFarlano on having been rc-olccled unopposed.
Mr. Daniell acknowledged tho chairman's congratulations. Ho commended tho chairman for his work, and expressed a. hope that Mr. Fletcher would bo ret timed, and that lio would tak« up his old office. Ho had been an excellent leader to tho board. On occasions lio (Mr. Daniell) had found fault with itho chairman's masterful ways of doing business, but lie could now congratulate the chairman on the results of those methods. Mr. R. C. Rennor said that as a member who was not seeking re-clcclioa ho wished to.cndorso tho remarks of Mr. Daniell as (o the conduct of the board's business, and as to Mr. Fletcher's fitness for tho position of chairman.
Mr. MacFiu-lauo thanked tho chairman for congratulations on his rc-elcc-tion. He had had a very pleasant twp years on the board, and ho thanked tho chairman and members for their courtesy to Mm. Personally, lie would like to seo all the old members re-elected.
Mr. J. G. Cobbo said that in, tho two years ho had been a. member of tho board it had struck him that the Wellington Harbour Hoard was one of (lie best-mnn-nged and best-worked institutions that ho know of in tho Dominion. Tho work dono by the chndrman and tho officers was of tho very highest order.
Similar congratulations woro offered by Mr. J. Trevor, Mr. J. G. Harkuess, and Mr. J. W. M'Ewen.
'Mr. Fletcher, in reply, thanked tlio members for their kind expressions of opinion regarding himself and Uio officers of tlifc board. Whether they woro nil returned or not they would ali. lie felt suit, Ire able to look buck, with satisfaction to the lime they had snent on tho Wellington Harbour Board. Ho admitted Hint lie took his duties seriously, and ho line] never been associated wilh boiler officers lhan Mr. Nicholls, Mr. Marchbanks, Captain Johnson, and Mr. Harnett. They wern all slaves lo duty, and he wished' lo thank tlicm on behalf of the board for (heir faithful service. Ho regretted that Mr. ltcnner was not seeking re-election to tho board.
