, y LORD GORELL OP BRAMPTON. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, April 22. The (loath is announced of Lord Gorcll of Brampton, cx-Judgc of the High Court of Justice. [Lorjl Gorell, of Brampton (John Gorcll Barnes, P. 0.) was bom in 1848 and was the son of Mr. Henry Barnes, a shipowner of Liverpool. lie was educated at Peterhouso, Cambridge, of which ho was an honorary Fellow, and took his degree with mathematical honours beforo he was 20. After leaving Iho University ho went into a solicitor's office for a lime, but subsequently became a pupil of the lain Lord Justice Malhow. Called at the Tuner Templo in 1870, lie joined tlio Northern Circuit, and soon got a considerable practice. In 1888 he took 'silk, and, dealing almost exclusively iu Admiralty, Ms practice becamc very groat. In 1892, on the elevation of Sir Francis Jcuno to Iho Presidency of tho Divorce Court, he was appointed a Judgo in tlio Probate, Divorce, and Admiralty Division, and occupied this post till 1905, when ho beenmo President. Ho marriod, in ISBI. Mary llumpston, daughter of Mr. Thomas Mitchell, of West Arthurlie, by whom ho has two sons and one daughter. His eldest son, Henry Gorell Barnes, lxirn in 1882, was educated at Trinity Collego, Oxford.!
