OTAKI METHODIST CHURCH.

On Tuesday, evening the Otaki Methodist Churtih celebrated its twenty-second anniversary, and also extended a welcome to tho Eev. Mr. Cottom and Eev. Mr. Tinsley, who have just taken up duty in the circuit.

A musical programme formed the first, part of tho proceedings, those contributing being Miss Avison, Miss Coekrell, Mrs., H. O. Jones, and Messrs. G.' W. Kirk. F. Penn, and Kingi Tahiwi. Miss Ethel Jones also gave a recitation. Mr. Penn (as senior circuit steward) occupied tho chair, and stated that the gathering was important, insomuch as it helped to celebrate the appointment of .the first fully-ordained Methodist Minister in the southern end of tho circuit. Mr. .Penn then related some back history, | remarking that they had had no fewer than eighteen changes of ministers sinco the work was opened. Now they hoped for more steady .-and effective work. He cordially, welcomed tho Eievs. Messrs. Cot torn and Tinsley, and hoped that their ministry would be a l>-ppy one, crowned with many blessings. Mr. Goldsmith, junior circuit steward,, on behalf of the .Levin people, also welcomed the newly-appointed ' ministers.' Mr. G. W. Kirk .added a welcome, on'behalf of the Te Horo people.. - ' The Eev. Mr. Cottom returned 'thanks for . the hearty .' welcome a'scorded him, and said that lie'felt that he-was-'com-' mg among a peoplo who were ready to help in his -work. ' He .hoped that the evident progress of clinrch work'in Otaki and district' would continue,' aiid also trusted: that tlicy .would '.not lose-sight of their main objective—they must .remember to witness for'. God, and"endeavour to win. met for Him. He hoped that his ministry would result in tho furtherance of God's work.

The Rev. Mr. Tinsley spoke of tho increased efficiency of a minister if a married ,man, and said that lie felt sure that jOtaki would find that Mr. and Mrs. Cottora. would, do good work. Supper was then handed round, after which competitions were indulged in, and a pleasant evening spent.
