BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
referendum supported,
Reference to the Bible-in-Schools quoa tion was made at,tho annual meeting of St Thomas's Parochial District, N\ oilington South, last night by tho vicar (tho Dev. W. Fancourl). Jn tho course of his remarks on tho annual report the Rev, Mr. Fancourt impressed upon those m'esent the importauco of tho issue. JLhero Has opposition, lie pointed out, and it was possible that there were many people who had not yet mado up their minds on the subject. It was their duty, however, tn give tho matter careful consideration awl to come to a decision in regard to it. Tlio phase of the question that appealed strongly to him personally was that tho system had worked very satisfactorily in Australia. An ounce of fact Vas worth lons of theory. , , Mr. Thomas Bland, at. a later stage of the meeting, said that tho remarks ol tlio vicar would be of assistance to him ana his fellow-synodsman (Mr. J. W. Sainton) later on. 110 was now going to put a resolution to the meeting because he considered that it was a disgrace that t.io Bible should be forbidden i'l the schoo.s. How were they going to answer to tluir rdiildreu for it ? A referendum on tle question should be insisted upon and if Ihev obtained it, the supporters ot i.ie Bible-in-Schools would outvote the ob.icclers by five to one. He moved : lu«t the parishioners of St. Thomas's at this meeting here this evening lend their assittnncc and support to the referendum en the Bible-in-Sohools question. Mr. D. Jenkins seconded the motion and expressed the opinion that the due results, attendant upon the banishment of the Bible from the schools, could not be calculated. On being put to the meeting, the motion was carried unanimously.
