" « •"THE BLUE BIRD." A large audience attended the pcrforma.nce of Maurice Maeterlinck's charming-, dream play, "The Blue Bird," by Mr. J. C. AVilliamson's company at the Opera House last evening. The performance generally is a very fine one, the work of. the children bejng especially good. . The first of >tho matinee performances will take place this afternoon, when each child that attends is *to Im presented with a "Blue Bird" brooch. Another inatinco of -this charming idyll is to be given on Saturday afternoon. THEATRE ROYAL.' Tho Serenadors are still in high favour .at the Theatre Royal, wliero they supply the greater part of a capital programme. Other artists now appearing are tho Lessos, tho Clardys, Murphy, Frank Hawthorne, and tlio gifted Harmonious Huxhanis. The Seven Ileraldos are to make their first appearance in .Wellington on Monday nest. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The current programme of pictures at |. His Majesty's Theatre contains many interesting pictures, included in which are scenes relating to tho recent motor cycle carnival at Trcnthatu. Another interesting local picture is one depicting scenes on H.M.S New Zealand. "A Marriage ,of Convenience," "Pizen Pete," and "On the Steps of tho Throne" (star drama), are amongst other pictures shown. - THE KING'S THEATRE. "The Weaker Vessel" is the star item on tho current programme at the King's Theatre, and 'it must be said that, in this number Pathe Freres have succeeded in blending the colours very agreeably. Tlio story is dramatic, and tho scenes include a' sensational occurrence in a bullfight. Other films shown during the evening are, "The Signal- of Distress," "Brains v. Brawn,' "Views on Beard H.M.S. Tho. programme will be repeated for the last time to-day and to-night. THE EMPRESS THEATRE. To-day and to-night there will be a last opportunity of witnessing the current programme of tho Empress Theatre continuous pictures. Foremost among an enjoyuble series is the Selig masterpiece drama, "The God of Gold." This is an elaborately staged and stylishly costumed piny depicting how a man sets out in life to become wealthy at any cost. In his blind ambition lie neglects wife, children, friends, and foregoes every joy in life until old ago finds him_. lonely and brokenhearted, notwithstanding all his 'riches. He dies in misery and alone. There are some magnificent visionary scenes introduced. Notable also are 'Tho Death of Lucrece" (Gnumont coloured drama), "Topical Budget," including a race between a motor cycle and a flying machine, and "Sammy Orpheus," a jungle comedy. There will be a complete change to-mor-row, headed by tlvs feature drama, "Tho Executioner's {Secret."
