CHANCES OF COURT CASES.

EEMAKKS AT S.P.C.A. A meeting of . tho committee of tho Society lor the Prevention of Cruelty' to Animals was held last evening, eight members being present in addition to tho secretary unci tne inspector. Several, cases' of cruelty were reported. ' One alleged offender had (it was reported) admitted his offence, and had offered to pay all costs it' an information against him were withdrawn. The chairman .(Mr. 'R. H. Webb) and another member suggested that, in tho circumstances, tho information might be withdrawn, but the inspector objected to this, and tho committee decided that the prosecution should proceed.' It was then. suggested that application should bo made to the Magistrate for tho destruction of. the animal (a horse).

The chairman: Oh, Riddell won't give an order for the destruction of tho horse —M'Arthur might. Dr. M'Arthur, it was mentioned, had not yet been applied to for an order for the destruction of any horse, but the matter was not further discussed.

Tho meeting subsequently considered ■the question of what counsel should be given the handling of a certain important ease, and before a final selection was made several names were passed over, as members were- of opinion that tho case should be entrusted to the best counsel available.
