They are being conducted with great vigour. The Federal Government's referenda proposals aro meeting; with strong opposition. The work of the preparation of the electorar rolls has been badly muddled, and thero is little apparent chance of their being accurate or complete for the elections. Thero has been a great rush to enrol; already over 50,000 applications have been received. IN WEST AUSTRALIA, v Perth, April 19. The Hon. W. C. Angwin, Honorary Minister; has declared that one of the irst measures to be dealt with during the coming session will be a Bill to abolish the Legislative. Council. ' N.S.W. FINANCIAL POSITION. "A MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. (Reo. April 21, 0.20 a.m.) ■ : ' Sydney, April 20. Mr. Griffith, the New South Wales minister for Works, in a speech dealing jwith the Public Works loan, said the taxpayers paid nothing towards the interest ion the borrowed money, and made a largo profit.. "Tho more we borrow," he isaid, "the better position wo are in, because it increases the net profit." In reply; to a question whether the financial position was usually good, Mr. Griffith said: "I wish it was a trading concern,-.and I owned it."
