' NEARING THE END. The weather for bowls lias apparently gone past, and those who aro continuing tho game aro those hardy enthusiasts who always make a point of playing as long as the greens aro open. These aro to bo commended for their courage in playing in the keen air of Saturday afternoon. The conditions were distinctly wintry, and as is usual at tho end of tho season, the greens were none too smooth for delicate play. The following ■ are tho results ■of Saturday's play:— THORNDON CLUB. Cards for the undermentioned special games on Saturday wero handed in. Edwiii Feathers. Thomdon v. Newtown:—Newtown—Warwick, Duff, J. Brackenridge! Wylio (s.),' 20; Thomdon—Cohen, J. I'.' Brandon, Kerr, Munro (s.), 17. Thorndon Roses. Alvcs, M'Clintock, Wiggins, jun., G. P. Watson (s.), lfi; Upharo, D. Y. Wilson, J. A. C. M'Eldowney, M. Clark (a.), 25. Thorndon Shamrocks. Arden, Nathan, P. Brandon, Pringla (s.), 31; Stevenson, Mackintosh, Freeman, Gamble (s.), 18. .. . NEWTOWN CLUB, Edwin Feathers. The Newtown Club sent to Thorndon wliat is probably tho strongest team it can at tho present time get together to do battle with the holders of tho above rink trophies. Tho Thorndon team was considerably strengthened for the game, and as a result the play was very strenuous, and up to the last head there was never a margin of more than three points on either side. Tho Newtown men proved 'themselves the stronger and won out, tho result being:— Newtown—Warwick, Duff, Jno. Brackenridge, Wylie (s.), 20; Thorndon—Cohen, Brandon, J. ICerr, Munro (s.), 17.

Newtown v. Hataitai. In a two rinks at home and two -away friendly gamo with Hatnitai, tho senior club had a very easy win, especially on the Hataitai green. Results:— Home:—Newtown—J. P. Luke, Crowes, Claxton, Scott (s.), 21; Hataitai—Jamieson, H. Ballinger, J. Martin, Barnes (s.), 19. Newtown—Mayo, Webb, Armstrong, Trevor (s.), 20; Hataitai—Bell (sub.), Fielding, Williams, Topp (s.), 17. At Hataitai:—Newtown — M'Cunnisky, Salmon, Bailey, laughton (e.), 38; Hataitai — Claridgo, lluggius, Mitchell, M'Whaimel (a.), ?. Newtown—l'ankhurst, Flyger, Powell, Bland (s.), 25; Hataitai , Bethune, Julius, Hendry (s.), 17. Totals—Nowtown, lOi; Hataitai, G2. Newtown v. Seatoun.

Two rinks from the Seatoun Club played a friendly gamo with , two Newtown rinks 011 the latter club's green, and although in tho aggregate the showing was against the' seasidcrs, the play was not so uneven, the run of luck in one of tho games being'nil against them. Results:— Newtown—C. 11. Luke, Roberts, J. Martin, M'Lean (s.), IB;' Seatoun—Richards, Wright, Bonnet, M'Girr (s.), 2i. Now town—Leahy, Chittey, Underwood, J. M. Bracltenridgo (&.), 39; Seatoun— Bowie, Crammond, Green, S. Hill (s.), 9. Totals—Newtown, 55; Seatoun, 33. Junior Handicap Singles.

Twelve colts and juniors competed for the. president's trophy, tho competition being played under scaled handicaps and in two sections. Russell and Ifevill had to play off, and tho result was in favour of li-evill, who is well over GO years old, and. who only took up bowling about Christmas time. Iu tho final he scored 19 to Russell's 11, and won without his handicap. Revill plays a very steady game. lIATAITAI CLUB. Club Champion Rinks Final. Shepherd, Cnrdno, Fathers, Penny (s.), 21; Baillie, Johnson, Cheesuian, Gruar (s.), 22. There was a tio on tho last head Gruar scoring one in the extra head. Champion Pairs Final. Cardno anil Nasmith (21) beat Sheperd and Laurenson (16). Hataitai Stars. Tho holders, Pritchard, Donald, M'Kittrick, and Jones (24), went down to Galvin, Rhodes, Gruar, and Pryor (28). This is the last game for tho season. The green will bo closed after Saturday next.
