CRICKET.
PICNIC CRICKET. MATCH V. WELLESLEY CLUB. A cricket match was played on tho Hutt ground on Saturday between teams representing tho battleship New Zealand and the Wellesley Club. Tho club members were hosts as a matter of course, and tho arrangements they had mado to givo their guests and the other visitors a really good time were excellent. In the afternoon a considerable number of club men and their wives went out to tho match, and at afternoon tea there was a party of some 300 people. Captain Halsoy, who proved to bo ono of the soundest batsmen in tho team, brought Away one memento of his trip. Mr. T. A. Peterkiu presented him with a "Dreadnought'pumpkin," as he called it, a monster growth weighing 1501b. Captain Halsoy acceptcd tho gift in proper spirit, and afterwards, when tho timo came to havo a photograph taken, the pumpkin was given a place of honour in the picture. Tho cricket match proved to be exciting and closely contested. Tho Wellesley Club team won on tho first innings 6Cores by six runs. Following aro the scores:—
