SUPERANNUATION.

WANTED FOR PROFESSORS. At Wednesday's meeting of tho Victoria College Council tho Finance Committee reported having considered the letter addressed by the Professorial Board to the council on the question of superannuation, and conferred- thereon with Professors Picken on-.l Hunter, as representing the board. The committee, made the following recommendations:— "That a joint deputation consisting of members of the council and Professorial Board wait on tho Acting-Minister for Education, and ask for amendments -to the Public Service Classification and Superannuation Act, 1912, in the following direction: "(1) To make it clear thnt the present professors of Victoria College should be deemed to bo permanently employed for the purposes of tho Act. "(2) To give tho professors an extension of time to elect to come under the Act, after they know that their appointments are deemed ■ to be permanent N "(3) To provide that in all future appointments it should be optional with the appointee whether ho should become it contributor or not. "(t) To remove the anomaly caused |_ by the fact that professors are placed "at a comparative disadvantage with teachers as contributors to the fund." After a very brief discussion the report I was adopted, and the recommendations' wero agreed to.
