MIRAMAR COUNCIL.
Iho last meeting of tho Miramar Borough Council for the year was held on Thursday, tho Mayor (Mr. H. N. M'Lcod) presiding. Councillors Bell, Stono. Grigg, Bowie, Telford and Smith were also present. A letter was received froin the traffic superintendent of the tramways, stating that tho council's application to have the 6.50 a.m. car from Miramar precede the G. 58 a.m. Seatoun car had been granted.— Received. A further letter from the same source was received wgarding tho late trams to Seatoun. The letter also drew attention to a letter forwarded to the council on September 17 last. Tho letter of September 17 read:—"As there does not appear to be sufficient traffic to warrant tho running of two cars to Seatoun within fifteen minutes, I would suggest to your council tho advisability of reversing the running of tho 10.37 and 10.52 p.m. cars, i.e., run the 10.37 p.m. car to Miramar, and the 10.52 p.m. car to Seatoun. If this suggestion is adopted the cars will Mrtainly be- run to better advantage.— M. Cable, traffic superintendent." The Mayor undertook to see tho department with reference to the traffic superintendent's, suggestion. A letter was received from the secretary of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, notifying the council. that its contribution to the board for the year 1913-14 would be .£589 13s. Id. It was decided to circularise the various local bodies affected by a similar lew with a view to entering a protest against the increase. It was decided to renew present postal arrangements for a period of three years as from January last. The Ferry Service Committee reported that the amendments made in the draft agreement by tho Ferries Company wero considered. Councillor Bowie undertook to see the company with reference to tho alterations, and at a subsequent meeting of tho committee ho reported the result of the interview, and the concession which the Ferry Company were prepared to make. Tho agreement" was approved. In reference to the schemes for a quicker and less expensive means of transit to and from town, Councillor Bowie moved, and Councillor Stono seconded, that the schemo outlined by the borough engineer for the establishment of a ferry service b* put before the incoming council for their favourable consideration.—Carried.
It was reported that twenty-two new buildingjj had been erected in the borough during the year, the estimated value being .£B2OO. The main and supplementary roll contained a total of 1431 names. The financial statoment for tho year was briefly as follows:—General account: Receipts, ,£7OOI (including a balance of .£lll3 145.); expenditure,. .£7OOI 2s. Cd. Separate accounts: The, wharf account showed a balance of „C2l His. 3d. The contractors' deposits account showed a balance of .£152 7s. Gd. Tramways account showed a debit of .£4BB Ss. nil. The wharf construction account showed a balance of J;3GO. The loan account showed a balance of .£1491 ss. sd. Tho rates struck totalled £1408 19s'. 4d., and tho interest .£4104 17s. 10d., making n total of .£8513 17s. 2d. Tho amount outstanding under this head was .£43 (is. ad. A trial'balance showed that at the end of the financial year there would Iw a balance of £1-194 ss. sd.
