Company, v Ltd., was first an- ! nounce-d, states the Sydney "Shipping List," much speculation was indulged in as to what the new ownej-s il'tended doing with them. Tho consensus <;!' opinion was that the cirgo service between the Pacific Coast, Now Zealand, and Australia, would ho maintained by them and until tho pre- ! sent there, was -no real reason to disputo the idea. Nov.-, however, tho question has been sot at rest by tho. managing owners stating that it is the intention of the Union Company to keep them running In the United Kingdom ar.d Australasia under the aegis of the Federal and' filiiro Lines as hitherto. Possibly at a later date somo other arrangement will be made,, but eo far there is no alteration oven contemplated, i NEW 1' AND S. LINEHS. For eome timo\past it has been rumoured that tho F. and S. fleet would be strengthened by the -addition of another 12,000 tonner of similar design to the Shropshire and Wiltshire, and when it becamo known that Captain Prisko had remained in London on his last retu?n from Australia the statement was considered to be strengthened. However, although the most exhaustive inquiries have been made into the matter, it is impossiblo to eecuro any cuthentic iiewe l , but in the course of investigations it transpired that although It is doubtful if .such a vessel as a 12.000'' tonner is under, order just now. tho line will te augmented by the addition of three high-class vessels each of; 8000 tone register, the order for which has just been placed by Messrs. Turnbull, Martin and Company and the Federal S.N. Company. The lirm to receive the contract for their construction is the Soclct* dea Ateliers and I OhanUcrs de France, of Dunkirk, and the engines will be supplied by the North T&n&lerp Marine Company. It is understood that tho first of the trio wiU be delivered in April, 1914, and tho others at short, intervals later. No names have. a» far as can be gathered, been decided on. 4> MESS-TABLE GOSSIP.
