The chairman informed each '■ offender that the committee did n,ot intend to take any action this year,.'but they wished it understood 'that. the > age rule in regard to fifth-class matches, whether in a asido tournament or in'any: other competitions, would be' strictly adhered to. It was decided to' send a letter to all clubs requesting them to assist the union in enforcing; tho law in respect, to the age of fifth-class players in all matches. During the meeting it was stated that, the Wellington Fwfcball Club, which is probably the oldest in the 'Dominion, would have mx teams competing this season. This number is a record for the club. .'.-;•

THE LEG-BEFORE JUJLE. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright " " London, April 10. Mr. K. E, Foster approves of tho alteration of the log-before rnlo if it only applies to the off-side, but thinks the present rulo should bo retained to discourage leg-break bowling. Ho also suggests that a smaller ball of the same weight should be used, which would enable the bowler to impart n larger break on bard wickets. DEATH OF AN ENGLISH PLAYER. (Hec. April 1.7, 9.10 p.m.) V London, Apr.il 17. Thomas Jaycs, tho Leicestershire crickeiter, has died of consumption. [Jnyes, who was born in 1877, was a serviceable bowler for his county. In both 1805-1906 he narrowly missed taking a hundred wickets each season, 95 falling to him in tho former season for 23 runs each, and 93 in tho. latter for 26 runs apiece. He was also a useful batsman.]

A; DISAPPOINTING 'TEAR. ' The- annual report of the ,Wellington Boiing Association states that despite tho efforts of tho committee to maintain a strong position •it is only too apparent that, compared with a year aj-o, the financial.position of the association is such as to give cause for grave concern. The | credit balance, which at the end of the 1912 season was £3M 16s. Gd., has diminlished veTy considerably, and at the end of the 1913 season stood at JCI72 16s. lOd. In the short period of one year, the reserve fund has, therefore, been depleted by- .E162,:0r ii per cent, of the total. It. is only too plain that if the drift, that has become so .pronounced duriiiß tha past two i years is not stopped immediately, the association ' wjU find itself over- j taken by disaster in the shape of an; empty exchequer at the end of tho next i season. It will have., to-enter upon-a \ struggle for existence, as it did ten years I ago, instead of retaining tho proud posi- \ tion of lenders in the sport it had done ■ so much to foster and control. The,tour- ■ haments held this season have resulted in ! a net lossof-deil6 to the association. .In ! other words, they have been carried on 1 at the expense of'the association's bank- ' ing account, instead «f being met out of : receipts, 'which fell short of expenditure '■ to 'the extent stated. . .
