Cun- j liffe, Kerr, Clark, Robertson, Tremain, ii Bedingfield, Hooper, Wright, and Ogg | were appointed a committee to dralt « rules, and arrange a syllabus. Mr. Clark ; was elected secretary pro tem. i! PETONE S.M. COURT. 3 The monthly sitting of the Petone Mag- j istrate's Court was held before Dr. A. failing to send his child to school regularly, J. d'Postine was fined 4-5., and costs 7s. Dilatory Territorials wore dealt with as follows:—Albert Daniel, Alfred ,T. M'C'onnell,' Mark L. Parr, and Allan V. White, for failing to render personal service were each convicted and fined .£1 with, costs 7s. 1 For similar offences V. Hawthorne (who did not appear) was fined .£3, with costs 75.; J. Beattio was ordered to pay costs 75., with an alternative of three days' imprisonment. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in- the following civil cases:—Margaret M'Lean v. John J. Owen, XI 75., costs 55.; same v. John Jansen, <£1 7s„ costs ss. 11l tlio civil action, James Gardiner, architect, of Pctone, v. tlj« Petono Working Men's Club, plaintiff songlit to recover the sum of ,£23 for fees for alleged architectural work done. Defendant paid .£G 10s. into Court, as payment for work done. After evidence, judgment was given for defendant, the magistrate agreeing that the amount paid into Court was a. fair price for the work done. Costs amounting to £2 16s. were allowed. Mr. Machcll appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. .Wilford defended.
. THE GUN CLUB. ~ <2 The general meeting of the Hutt Valley '> Gun Club was held on Wednesday even- is inpr, Mr. S- Scott presiding. . jj The balance-sheet, which showed a fa credit, was adopted. On the motion of Mr. Brossel, it was resolved that in future any competitor winning his own trophy shall be given another" of'equal value, or be given a "leg-in" for an aggregate trophy. It was resolved, to end the financial year on April 15, instead of on March 31, as in previous years. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. A. Gadsby (re-elected); president, Mr. S. Scott (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. B. Brossel, G. M. Wil-.. liams, A. Gadsby; secretary. Mr. J. Brossel; treasurer, Mr. S. Scott; executive, Messrs. L. Edwards, \V. Kilminster, W. Meagre, R. Philp, F. Gadsby, A. Scott, P. Casey; handicapper and scorer, Mr. J. Scholes. In moving a vote of thanks to the rctiriii" secretary, the chairman remarked that°Mr. Scholes had been a very energgctic worker, and his retirement would be a heavy loss, as a good secretary alwavs made a good club. The secretary was voted an honorarium of .£lO 10s. After the business had concluded a , smoke concert was held, when the customary toasts were honoured,, and trophies won last year were presented to the following:-Atk'in's Cup, won by A. Scott; Mr. J. Brossel's trophy, won by S. Scott; ! Mr.' S. Scott's trophy, won by Mr. J. I Brosscll; Mr. J. Brossoll.'s trophy, won by H. Philp; club trophy, won by J. f Brossell; Mr. P. Casey's novices trophy, V won by A. Scott; Mr. A. Scott's trophy. | won by S. Scott; Mr. Edwards's points B trophy, won by W. Tulloch. It was an- ; nounced that members had secured a K "IcK-in" for troohies presented by Messrs. f Brossell, S. Scott, Gadsby, and AVilfpwl. i Messrs. Edwards,.A. Scott, and Williams [ 'promised trophies to the value of a guiuear for competition next season. BIG FIRE AT LOWER HUTT. I At 3.15 yesterday afternoon an eight- : roomed dwelling on White's Line, East j J,owcr Hutt, was totally destroyed by fire. • The premises • were owned and occupied ; bv Mr. Henry Archer. Included in the cli'ects wus a valuable motor cycle. IIUTT PARK AFFAIRS. A meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was held last evening und-was .attended by Messrs. Baldwin (chairman), Macnskill. Barlow, and M'Ewan. Mr. P. R. Purser tendered his resignation as secretary. The Wellington City Council intimated that the lire plugs in the park were sufficient for all purposes, and suggested that the eoiniiiittco simply hydrants for them- • selves. It was reported that the plugs were in bad order, and it was decided to ask the Wellington Council to repair them. The Eastbourne Council regretted that thev could not forward a further amount of £W towards the funds., It was resolved to make further application. The Wellington Hockey Association wrote complaining that the grounds on the park would not be fit for playins on when the season opened on May 3, and the troublo really was that the caretaker was not in possession of a mower with which to cut the grass. After some discussion it was resolved to inform the Hockey Association that the committee would do everything possible to huvo the grounds ready for use on opening day. The treasurer reported that the bank balance Was .£lB 6s. Id.
