FALL OF 800 FEET. TALISMAN MINE FATALITY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association!) ; Karangahake, April 16. liio adjourned inquiry regarding the S i William Hyde and .Thomas iu iiriae, which occurred on March 28 at the Talisman mine,' as the result of a wire-ropo attached to a skip in tho shaft breaking, and both men being precipitaled t oa depth of 800 ft. down tho shaft, was resumed at Karangahake to-dav. John Tait, engineer to the Talisman Company, was examined at length. . He admitted he was responsible for tho condition of tho whole machinery in the mine. His duty was to inspect and report to the mine manager. Ho had examined the hauling ropes on tho day of the accident, and was satisfied that they were safe. Defects had since teen discovered m the rope that were not visiblo just prior to the accident, Tho iijrquiry will last several days. SAILOR FOUND DROWNED. • , T .' Auckland, April IG. He evidently came out to New Zealf.nd in an oversea steimer, for in the photograph, which had been taken at Portsmouth, the deceased is' wearing tho clothes in which the body was found. David Mitchell, who was admitted to tho hospital oil April 1, suffering from the effect of injuries received through falling from jtlie top of M'Lcod Bros.' soap works, died in the hospital to-night. FOUNDRY MISHAP Arthur George, a lad of l(i years, who lives at Kanri, while working at Luke's foundry, had two fingers badly crushed in the eugs of some machinery yesterday afternoon.
